The Few Reasons I hate Winter + My T4R..Feel Free to Add!

-Gas Mileage Drops in 4wd

-Strange Noises, rattles, creaks, moans from the interior. Especially the windows, they seem to all suddenly make odd noises.

-Dirt, Sand, Salt, Snow, Rockchips

-Interior is constantly dirty, even with my Husky Liners. I hate scuffs, etc

-Spare Tire TPMS lights up the dash (I always forget that the first cold snap will result in this), causing me to freeze my butt off by lowering the spare and filing it up with air


Minor but annoying.
I still my T4R!

Hmm...I'm 100% the opposite way.

Really one of the biggest reasons I bought my T4R was because I was sick of feeling out of my element every winter. It's been almost 5 years now since I sold my 2001 Wrangler Sport hardtop. Since then, every winter I have missed having a 4wd vehicle terribly, but nothing was around in my price range with the features I wanted. The Wrangler was fun, but with a wife and kid I needed a real truck and wanted one with all the toys.

There is something pretty satisfying about pulling out of my garage with several inches of snow on the ground and just driving like I do any other day of the year while everyone else is taking turns at 2 mph and spinnin their wheels for the first 30' when they take off. The Revos really stick to the ground and the T4R really inspires confidence as it's easy to maneuver (it's not huge) and has great brakes.

I feel like my wife and kid are safer in a 4WD truck too, especially in the winter.

That and I really get my moneys worth out of those heated seats. :bigok: We've got heated leather in our Maxima too, but the T4R seats get toasty twice as fast as the Maxima.

Maybe it's because it's my first winter with the truck, but I'm loving it!

I have no probs above. Here's my addition:
- Scraping ice off the windshield (i'm only 5'6" tall)
- Wish there's a better way to get the rear wiper free of ice
- There's always an iceberg underneath my running boards

2) I have to decide whether I should ride with the windows down or up
3) I can't remember the last time I washed it.
4) Hahaha:lmao: It's a good time to be living in Florida. We're entering our "good three months". No daily rains, temps are great, bugs aren't that active....


Morphius909- I have one of those double sided, 5" long air chucks and I don't have to let my spare down to fill it. I can just reach the cap between spokes and fill it that way. You sound like you need to move to a milder climate than blame the truck. :

I know how you feel about your baby getting abused by winter and the MPGs dropping a bit as I feel the same about mine but that's what I bought mine for was winter and off roading.

I Love Winter. I never check MPG ( it's a truck). No wierd noises in my ride, winter or summer. As for dirt on all-weather mats, I take those inside and hose them off in a bathtub (shake the send off outside). Put some extra air in spare before the season so you wont have to climb under there in the cold. Running A/C in the winter is recomended in order to lubricate compressor and o-rings. If it wasn't for "bad" weather I'd ride GSX-R as a daily driver.

I just moved back to Arizona from Colorado. I had a Tundra for six years that I loved to clean and keep it that way so it would stay in the garage some in the winter unless I needed it for work. I loved driving in the snow but did not like the mag chloride that the city would lay on the roads. Now my 4 Runner stays clean for the most part. I'm glad I'm in AZ now; -18 at Denver International last night

um yes, and i had to take a friend to the airport too. but lucky for me it was only -9 when i got there though...and i was impressed the temp gauge in the runner actually shows temps below 0. i think if i recall correctly my 3rd gen did not go below 4?

the 4runner does amazing in the snow and ice so other then the dirty car. i dont mind. i do get weird noises though from freezing temps and last night the inside of my window had ice on it...that cant be good

The only cool part about the iceberg under the running boards is when it breaks off in the carwash and some poor sucker behind you has to maneuver around it! haha!

You shouldn't have to get out a scraper. Add methanol to your windshield fluid. It won't freeze and you are good to go with ice on the front and back windows! As far as the sides, you will have to leave it running for a bit to defrost those unless you have some in a spray bottle inside the car. Just try to keep it off the paint as much as possible. It is really great though to get in, hit the wipers and in 3-4 swipes it

Amen to that. I need some snow down this way!! Was in the mid 70s here today.

As for when bad weather does hit, I am gonna miss the heated windshield and seats that the Range Rover had.

He lives in Canada ( like myself ) and cant really move anywhere warmer unless we all change countries LOL .

How would you guys like to swap your Texas for our Quebec ? Those of us who dont like the cold could just move down there .

I'll try that. I have Prestone De-Icer (Yellow) now in my reservoir. Last nite, it was -4 degrees in Colorado Springs.

MikesToy, I have been experiencing the same problem these past couple days. I've been driving almost blind because my window washer was frozen! Is this typical with 4Rs?

This was my FIRST time it happened. Also, the very first time having -4 (-11 windchill) here in the Springs. When i looked closely the tiny nozzles were clogged and frozen NOT the reservoir.

I never got a close enough to inspect them but I figured it was just the nozzles. Well, hopefully it doesn't happen again too often!
