The internet just told me my timing belt was changed semi-recently!

I recommend going in to your local dealer and giving them your vin.

As stated earlier my earliest record on the site was from 2008. When I went into the dealer they had records alllll the way back to when it was sold with 9 miles on it.

I am on my 3rd Supercharger apparently. The first one was pinging, so they replaced it. Second one apparently the PO's teenage son (haha, wow) filled it with regular fuel and drove it "vigorously" and after that the SC rattled at idle. This one was installed at 83k when they did my timing belt! Only 30k miles on it!

I've been using that site to track all of my records from the date of purchase. It's handy if you do most of your own maintenance and its cool that the dealer records post automatically.

Oh, so if you do something yourself, they have a way to report it to them? Very cool. I would've thought it was dealer only. I wonder if I can get my other shop to report to them, too?

it would be nice if it went back to the beginning... cause i know my runner was owned by a either a sales men or service writer for vancouver toyota... and yeah i know all the maintenance was done on time for it, as the parts guys and some of the service tech at vancouver remember and know my truck... but all this page tells me is that in 2009 at 186xxxk the wipers blades were replaced... nice

No, just take your records of what has been done and you enter it in yourself.

Kid- Givethe dealer your vin man. My records go back to 9 miles in 99 now.

For the Canadians in this thread, if you need a service history.. the dealer will give you a copy of it. I walked in last week to mine and they printed it off with no issues. All you need is the VIN.

I did the same. Ask them to click the "RO" number link and print that too. That gives you all parts replaced, charges for parts and labor, etc.

I walked out with 13 pages to add to my records!!!!

I have a question about finding out whether my timing belt has been replaced.

I recently purchased an 03 SR5 V8 with 110k miles on it. I picked it up from a small local used car dealer, so I never got to ask the previous owner about the service history. The carfax report shows that it is a 1 owner car that was serviced at 5k intervals for its entire life at Power Toyota of Irving (CA). For each service entry on the carfax report it says "Recommended maintenance performed", including the service that happened at 90k miles.

Last night I found this thread, and decided to check the records that Toyota has. The Toyota owners website only has records going back to the 95,000 mile service for my t4r, so I cant figure out what was actually done at the 90k service. On top of that, according to the Toyota owners website, the dealership "recommended" that the timing belt be changed during the 105k service, which seems very odd considering that the "recommended service was performed" according to carfax and that the timing belt recommendation was not made at the 95k or 100k services according to Toyota records. Also, there is not a timing belt sticker under the hood.

So, now to finally get to my question: If I understand correctly, I should be able to go down to my local toyota dealership and have them pull a more complete set of service records that will be able to tell me definitively whether my timing belt has been replaced? Is there any other way to determine whether or not the timing belt has been serviced? I dont want to replace the belt if it was already done, but unless I can be absolutely 100% sure that it was already replaced I will just do it to be safe.


Anyway, sorry for the long winded post. I have been a lurker for a while but I will officially introduce myself and post some pictures of my ride in the new members area soon. :cheers:

Yeah i realize I drive a 4th gen and this the 3rd gen forums, I figured since its a general timing belt question and nothing specific to the generation the section doesnt really mater.

If I were in your shoes, I would just assume it hasn't been done. Take it to a mechanic and have them inspect it. At 110k, I assume somebody got rid of the vehicle before investing in any additional major maintenance.

Sweet, I just found out my timing belt, water pump, all belts, and front brakes were all done just before I bought our 4Runner. Thanks so much for that link!!

Just found this link... nice stuff, too bad it only goes back to 2008 for me. interesting because I had the dealer print out all my records all the way back to Nov 2002 when I bought mine.

So for now I guess Ill hold onto all my printed records until they get things more comprehensive. Great idea though. Theoretically anywhere you have your vehicle serviced should someday be able to submit the records with your vin #.

It pulls up the Toyota national service history...the same info I can pull up working at a dealer. I believe that started late 2004.

This site, the Toyota Owner's site, plus the original records from the owner, are why I bought my vehicle. Aside from the LBJs/OTREs and the radiator, EVERYTHING has been done. MAF sensor has been cleaned, O2 sensor (front) replaced, antenna mast replaced, starter contacts, etc., you name it, it's been taken care of. Timing belt and all other belts and fluids were taken care of at 90K.

I've done the LBJs/OTREs; am about to do the radiator replacement with my Koyo A1998 (and will do a coolant/tranny flush @ the same time), and will do the 199mm Tundra brake upgrade after that. Once THOSE are done, the fun stuff begins. :biggrin2:

boo mine only goes back to 10/2008.
shows maybe a third of the services done
(all warranty and some major services were done at same local dealer where I bought it new)

and nothing on the manuals download page works, but don't need that anyway

Well didn't find all the info that I was expecting, records only went back to 2008... But at 113k new cat was installed due to P0420 code and the whole rear diff , bearings and seals where replaced? All this was done at a local dealer down the road, maybe I'll stop by there and see if they can pull up more for me?
