The Josh's Build Thread

Spent about 20 minutes reading through your build. Very NICE and well built 4Runner you got there. Lots of time and money! Great job.

Nice !

Nice build man. Question..
Are you over heating with the new bumper. I had a ARB on my 1998 GC and she would over heat. Any problems so far with your bumper. Looking to get one by next year.

Inspirational build for sure. What was the reasoning of the motor swap?

thank you!

well back in 07-09 i used my 4runner for work since it was my only car at the time. that meant i used it to tow a lot and around june 09 i developed a misfire on cyclinder 6 and later i determined either my head was warper or i blew a head gasket and since my heads were VVTI i would of had to pull the whole engine to do a head gasket so i decided since i already had 120k on the engine might as well just get a new engine. i sourced a new engine for $2200 and did the swap with my buddy over the course of a couple weekend (30 hours of wrenching) and viola!

thank you! ive never had a issue overheating, i did have my tranny temp rise when i would wheel in 4lo so i later installed a tranny cooler and never had a issue after that

highly recommend the steel plate bumpers, they are great and badass~

Just finished installed my new 4" Alien Led light bars that I purchased thru a group buy on expo.

The light output on these lights is insane! They are probably brighter than my HIDs but just don't reach as far

I was driving down first street in gilroy heading to my buddy's house to drop off a rc rock crawler I borrowed for the day. We were driving in the left lane going about 30mph of a 5 lane road with the middle being a emergency lane. Then a man in a sienna minivan gunned from a shopping center on our right across traffic and I swerved to try to minimize or dodge him but hit my smack in my passenger side slider and doors and I grinded across him and my truck popped off when he hit my rear axle and then my rear passenger tire blew out. I was now in oncoming traffic and I drove off the street into a Walgreens parking lot and once I checke to see if shelley and freddie were okay I got out of tw truck and ran to the other car cause at first I thought he was fleeing. But upon further inspection he wasn't going anywhere. He car was totaled with car parts all over the 5 lane road with cars running over pieces here and there. The man was okay but shooken up. He was just in a rush when he tried to make that left hand turn and look where it got us. Several really nice people pulled over to help and check on us, they also called the cops and the officers that showed up were really nice.

We exchanged Info and I thought I would be able to drive home once I change my tire so I had at it and changed the tire on limited tools (wasn't planning on doing any tire Changes yesterday) after I had the tire changed we drive the 2 blocks to my friends house and while we were going the truck was swerving like crazy, I thought it was just the alignment but when I got to my friends I realized my rear axle was bent, probably by about 10-15 degrees outward on the leading edge of the right side. So then I knew it had to be flatbed towed home. Called around and the quotes were $400-450 for a tow so we ended up with plan B. my friend let us drive his wife's 3rd gen home and he will gonna bring my runner home today with his f350 and trailer.

Damn! i dont know what to say. i hope your insurance take good care of you, that looks like a lotta damage. Important thing is that nobody got hurt.

Noooo! One of my fav trucks! Sorry to hear, hope the frame isn't bent and insurance money can get everything fixed. Good luck!

That right there is one of my worst fears, and the main reason I try not to drive my rig in town or at least in heavy traffic. I'm not saying there was much you could have done to control it... You've got to get out of the city before you can go 'wheeling.

Damn, that sucks. I sure hope they don't total it, I guess more so I hope that it is not the end of your rig. As others have said, it's always been one of my favorites!

My truck is down at the shop in gilroy at Johnny's Cutom Auto Body. after talking it over with Johnny he said there is no way they will total the truck out, the damage isnt at bad as it seems, although it will be expensive im sure it wont total it so that give me some relief. it will most likely be in the shop for 3 weeks so i picked up a rental car on their dime and with a bit of negotiations with Enterprise i was able to talk myself into the Elite line for the same price so i picked up this little badboy for the next few weeks. itll be handy and fun on our road trip to Portland, Ore next week to meet up with Joel and his Wife (Brewski)

so tonight i drove down to pick up my truck since i was givin word that it was finally complete. i loaded up the tundra and went to my buddys house to borrow his trailer to haul my truck back home. after 90 mins i got to the body shop and found my truck waiting. it looked awesome, paint was all fresh and i couldnt wait to load it up and take it home...

then i was checking all the paint and found a drip on each door near the door handles. i brought it to the owners attention and he was very apologetic and pissed off that this wasnt found earlier. and after closer inspection he determined it was on the base coat and the whole doors would need to be repainted so i basically wasted my whole afternoon going down there for this. he said it would be ready again on thursday and he asked what he could do to make it better and i mentions the dented lower body panel on my driver side rear door and he said he would do that body work and paint it so that made the situation much better for me...

anywho i was able to actuall pick up al my new shocks!!

here is some pics
