The LFD Off Road Thread

Got the LFD crossbars installed yesterday.... and this morning's ride to work sounded like I was riding on 40" boggers. I assume this is normal due to the size/shape of the bars, just sounded extra loud. I did take a look to make sure no hardware backed out during the drive. Anyone else have the same sound issue after installing crossbars?

Btw, the crossbars are perfect for my needs and look great on the truck, can't wait to find something to haul up there. Thanks Jacob and Scott for all your help and a great product.

That’s interesting, I thought they were supposed to be pretty quiet.

Pretty sure [MENTION=73851]007Tacoma[/MENTION] had a RTT on LFD crossbars before putting a rack on.

That is correct - I ran my RTT and Awning on the LFD Crossbars for months before getting their 7/8ths rack (which uses the same crossbars).

I get the same thing between 45-50mph. They sell a wind deflector but the description states it won’t fit with the factory rails. When I open the moonroof the noise goes away.

I didn't have any noise from them... Sounds like something is loose...

Are there any pictures of the MAB Crossbar Extension, website just shows one installed. What does MAB stand for?

I helped out with these, and I have the original ones. I can take pics if need be, but my paint job was not good. I still have them on my rig - for the 7/8th rack they just needed to be flipped. They still work perfectly!

I want to know if I can put a CVT tent on top of lfd cross bars on stock side rails?
I’m don’t want to spend another $500 I already spent about $2000 on the tent

I have 4 crossbars and tried moving them around but nothing seems to make much difference.

Pros: low profile, accessories bolt straight on (including RTT), no noise, great looks, great size, great weight capacity, and versatile.
Cons: limited by size of the stock side rails

BONUS! with the mesh off, my RTT bolted right on!!!

Also ran their crossbars but on a 10-13 Trail. I didn't get any wind noise until I mounted my RTT and only above 50 mph.

I just received shipping confirmation on my rack. If anyone has any extra LFD cross bars that they want to part with, I can always use more and will buy them. ;-)

I had 3 ...but only 2 of them were needed. I had rubber spacers on the outer bars to raise the tent up 1/4 inch, and prevent the tent from squeaking on the bars. So the middle bar was not carrying any weight.

That is how I have it now on my 7/8ths rack too. I have one bar that is just there.

Yes, 4 bolts. We routinely lift the vehicles using a floor jack in the center of the front skid. One of the jacks has a fairly small contact point, but the skid still doesnt bend.

Congrats! Which rack did you get? I just ordered mine this past Tuesday, I optioned for a full rack over the 7/8 rack. Just gotta wait for shipping confirmation now haha.

Hey guys, regarding the wind noise, that appeared when we switched the design from mounting holes on top to the slots. The noise does seem to go away if you have something bolted to the crossbar, only really seems to appear when empty. Even just installing a bolt with some washers is enough sometimes to cut the noise down.

We are working on some prototype bolt on farings that will work with the stock roof rail setup. They're currently enroute to a few customers for further testing, and if everything is good we'll release them for production very soon.

We didn't want to go back to the holes because we feel the slots offer so much more flexibility in mounting accessories.
