The LFD Off Road Thread

Thanks to this thread I ordered a 7/8th's rack on Sunday. Tracking says 2/12 but we are supposed to get 8inches of snow starting tomorrow. The 3 inches we got last weekend shut everything down in the Seattle area for 2 days so I hope it gets to me by March.

3/4 Roof Rack with Rugged Crossbars

First ordered 5 crossbars and mounted to factory rails. That didn't last long as I ordered the side rails very shortly after. Got those installed and just placed an order for a couple more crossbars, wind faring, and MAB extensions (for awning). Love the look, fit, and functionality. Super easy install too

Wind farings should be back from powder sometime this week finally

I've also been using those tent QDs, they're great. You can mount them below the crossbars too to bring the tent's height down. Made a huge difference on mine.

They are just some cheap flush mounts off of Amazon. Honestly, if I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with a name brand light. Worked for my budget at the time.

Picked up a wide skid plate from LFD Offroad the other day. Still waiting on a day off with no rain to paint it. I'll post pics once I get it installed.

Are you referring to the RTT quick release mounts I have on the rack? I would love to bring the tent height down. How would they mount under the crossbars though?

I wasn't feeling the exposed look of the bolts up top... reminded me of those ugly bro nuts on the faux bead lock wheels everyone has so I decided to paint the bolts instead to blend it all in. Looks better IMO:

Are you referring to the RTT quick release mounts I have on the rack? I would love to bring the tent height down. How would they mount under the crossbars though?

You just put them under the crossbars instead of above, and run a longer bolt up through the plate and crossbar. You'll need M8 1.25 40mm bolts and some larger diameter washers for the top. I installed mine like this today.

My question is how to keep them from clinking around when the RTT isn't on. I just wrapped a ziptie around mine for now.

Definitely looks better. Now that I think I've finally settled on my crossbar spacing I may give that a whirl too.

It does look better. I wish we could get other hardware, but those are literally all our purchasing department has been able to find in M8 carriage bolts. It seems that they just aren't available in stainless or black.

Now that we're ordering a lot more hardware, I should have them look again, see if there is something we missed...

How does the noise of the factory replacement rails compare to the factory crossbars? I'd like the additional load bearing and adaptability of these bars but am concerned about the noise primarily. I think they look better as well.

Honestly its hit and miss. Some people report zero added noise, some people experience a wind noise, some a harmonic. We just added the bolt on faring option that will help out though, getting them back from powder coating today actually.
