The LFD Off Road Thread

Are any of you guys having any issues with powdercoating and rust on the steel crossbars? I've had mine since June and they're looking rough on the edges.

I had a few bare spots on the crossbars that I found when they arrived (mostly looked like hanger spots whilst powdercoating)... I just prepped the areas and painted them with a matte black paint pen

Our original powder coating company wasn't prepping parts even though we were paying them to do so. Seems some batches have faired better than others. We fired them around December and have been using a new vendor.

That's good to hear. I'm considering a set of the 3/4 rails but was worried that those may rust like the crossbars have.

They shouldn't hopefully, the new vendor is doing proper prep work on the parts. The downside is that they're not packing as well post paint, so better than half of most shipments lately coming back have damaged paint that need to get re-processed, which hasn't helped lead times lately.

Quick question about the 5th gen skids: I see there's a front skid, and a t-case skid. What about the one in the middle?

The pic of the t-case skid shows the transmission protected as well. Does the front skid go back that far, or does that piece come withe the t-case skid?

Seems like other companies have 3 piece skids for this, is LFD just 2 pieces?

i am thinking about the extension. Can they hold hi lift jack also?

I don't see why not. It really depends on how much weight you're going to be putting on them and how far out away from the rack. These are overkill for just an awning (that was the point), but if you put a hilift and an awning on them at full extension you will definitely start getting flex and vibrations.

That's why I purchased aluminum. I don't plan on standing on them though. Mine should be coming in soon (2 cross bars and the fairing) and I did buy the Hi-lift jack mounts so I'll post once I get them on. If that all works then I'll probably get accessory mounting plate so I can put Rotopax on them which would require one more aluminum cross bar I think. Then if all goes well and I like it I would upgrade to the side rails but would have to wait until they have a 3/4 aluminum. I may also find another place for the Rotopax and put Max Trax on the roof instead. That way I may be able to keep just 2 cross bars.

I don't see your full aluminum roof rack 5th gen on your online store? It just shows the all steel. Is it my browser ?

We took down aluminums yesterday for some site maintenance and forgot to get them back up. I'll have to add that to the to-do list today.

We dont have the transmission skid finalized yet, we wanted to give it a bit more reinforcement before releasing it but havent been able to get back to finishing it.

Has anyone mounted a CB antenna to the cross bar/rack/rail? If so can you relay your experience, hopefully with photos? TIA

Also, would the cross bars still be able to mount these?

This thread is extremely helpful and full of great info. Thanks so much for everyones input!

I mounded a CB Firestik antenna on a crossbar, I didn't like how high it sat, so I moved it back down to the bumper, but it does work.

I believe I have seen a photo of someone using the rod holder.

I don't see the aluminum crossbars or fairing listed on your site any longer. Will these be coming back soon?

Farings are still down for a bit, we're working on revising those. If you dont install it 100% properly it hurts more than helps.
