The LFD Off Road Thread

Any videos out there showing the front hybrid bumper install? I did a quick search on YouTube and didn't find any.

Has anyone mounted kayak carriers to the LFD Off Road Ruggedized Crossbars? Most carriers I find have the clamp on system designed for square, round, or aero bars. Wondering if anyone has bolted directly to the LFD crossbars?

Don’t know about kayak stuff, but I have a Thule box on order and it was confirmed earlier in this thread that their clamp on system for boxes works well with these bars, just might need an extra crossbar for the wind fairing.

I dont think we have any videos of that right now; its pretty easy though, especially having an Off Road - the front valence outline is your cutting line.

I was a little hesitant since the directions are a little lacking.
I just watched a couple videos of other companies' hidden winch/lo profile installs - I think there were some good Southern Style videos.
Same bumper cover removal, wheel wells, bumper... just cut in a different place.
And since you have a valance - you know where to cut.
Bolting up the new bumper is pretty much idiot proof.
It's surprisingly easy overall.

I guess you can put the bumper on first and then later put on a winch without having to take it off?

Didn't someone who recently installed the hybrid on an SR5 state you should likely cut parallel to the grill but about an inch or so down from where it meets the bumper?

Winch and Bumper at the same time

Nope.
Not enough room to drop down from top - hood latch, horn, cooling lines...
You'd have to take off everything all over again.
On the bright side - you'll be quicker at it.

SR5 Install

That was me back around post 900 - you can see some pix.
I cut a bit too much, but "saved" it with some edge guard.
I suggest about 1.5".

How do you like the winch?

I like it... but then its hard really to judge what to like or not on a winch until it fails you.
I wanted a name brand with a good history - I considered Warn, Mile Marker, Engo, Ramsey and Superwinch.
I wanted waterproof, synthetic and 9-10K.
I stalked the internet back around black friday until I found a great deal at rockridge4wd.com $360.

Pros
"Name Brand" 10K Synthetic with a good history
Fit perfect in spot inside bumper - didn't need to bend any lines
Worked 3 times I've tested it and 1 time I needed it off road
Price - so much cheaper than the Warn

Cons
A little slow compared to the fancy new ones (but I was stuck and not going anywhere anyway)
Kind of a clunky hook on the end (looked at replacing it but fancy stuff costs 1/2 as much as the winch)
Solenoid vice contactor (I've submerged it several times and so far so good)

The only other option for me in the end was the Warn - the name, speed and the "upgraded" contactor... but I just couldn't do it.

Does anybody have a picture on how they got the 7/8ths roof rack and a mounting plate added? I am having the hardest time figuring out the spacing as I want the plate to be in the front.

Thanks, I'll look at that option and also Black Friday. Right now it looks like with the 12% off sitewide it's about $380. Linke to winch

Yep, lots of people using the clamp on accessories with our crossbars. A lot of them work with no or very minimal modification.

Lots mounted here!

So question about the hybid front bumper. The website doesn't give the weight and it doesn't say whether it comes powdercoated or not?

It’s about time we started one of these.

A lot of you guys have heard of us by now. We’re LFD Off Road.

A little history: I bought my 4Runner Trail in January of 2016, immediately put on some KO2s, and thought that was the end of my mods. Maybe I’d want a roof rack one day. I said the same words many here before have uttered, “I’m only going to use the 4R on some forest roads, nothing hard core.” I then took a 4wd 101 class with UORTC here at Uwharrie (which has since become a part of OEX), got bitten by the off road bug after that class, and thus began the journey to today.

Our parent company is an industrial machinery manufacturer, and we also have a fabrication division. We’re celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, so we’re actually not a start-up or new company, Off Road is just a new division. We are new at the business to consumer market though, since all our previous work was business to business.

Anyways, late one evening following that 4wd 101 class, I began making my own parts for my 4R in the fab shop. People in the local 4R groups (you C4R-ORG guys are mainly to blame) started seeing the parts I made, and begin asking if they could buy some as well. After talking with our owner, we got the blessing to begin the Off Road division, hired some more Toyota off road enthusiasts, converted a few others to the Toyota side, and things started taking off from there!

Thanks to the resources of the parent division, we have our own fiber laser, press brake, robotic welder, and a full staff of engineers at our disposal. We design, cut, bend, and weld everything in-house. The only operation we don’t perform at our plant is powder coating. The below panoramic image is just the back half of the plant, showing the CNC machinery where the magic happens!

To date we’ve made a slew of parts for 5th Gen 4Rs, 4th Gen 4Rs, 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma, 80 and 100 Series Land Cruisers, Lexus GXs, Tundra, a couple Jeeps, and are actively working on a lot more!

We’ll continue to update this thread with product information, announcements, reviews, our general mischief, and whatever else you guys end up posting.

Thank you for a great first year, and we look forward to many more!

Well, I just ordered a 3/4 steel rack for my 2010 4Runner. It’s on backorder, but I’m excited nonetheless.

Bumper Added 58.8 lbs

So question about the hybid front bumper. The website doesn't give the weight and it doesn't say whether it comes powdercoated or not?

Mine weighed 83.2 lbs.
Stock Bumper I removed weighed 24.4 pounds.
And I didn't weigh the plastic I cut off... pretty negligible.
Winch added another 60lbs.
Front end went down 1/2 inch, but that was back on stock suspension.

Powder coating seems pretty good.
I drug it through some rocks a few months ago and it scratched, but didn't flake/scab off.
It spot rusted a little over the next couple of months.
I just sanded and touched it up with some Rustoleum while social distancing.
Looks like new.

Hopefully now that I have a suspension I can keep the nose out of the rocks.

Just want to give a huge shoutout to Philip and the rest of the crew at LFD offroad. I had previously bought some of the crossbars to go on my factory rails, and a few weeks back I noticed they were having a sale, so I decided to pick up some of their roof rails to complete a 3/4 rack.

I mentioned to Philip that I'm a healthcare worker, currently taking care of COVID patients, and asked for non-contact pickup so that I could avoid exposing any of the guys down there.

Not only did they ship it to me for free, they also included a wind faring at no cost. Now that is customer service.

Can't say enough good things about the quality of the product as well as their customer service.

Thanks to Philip and the rest of the LFD crew, you've got yourselves a lifelong customer!

That just means it's time to find bigger rocks :D

NO bigger rocks - I maxed out on damage last trip.
Busted out 4 weld nuts on skid plates, bent gas tank arms and beat up passenger lower link.
Skid plates looked like they had been sanded with 0 grit.

New suspension has me 4+ inches higher up front (I was really sagging on stock).
Added skids on Lower Links, Shock Mounts, & Rear Differential.
Figured out how to do rivet nuts and I finally got everything back together.

I'm thinking the same rocks someday so I can defeat that trail, but hopefully nothing bigger (until I get stupid and do it)
