the new nexus 7 ... hands on and it's awesome

I picked up my new nexus 7 yesterday and it's awesome.

And I used it to make this post hah!

My GF has a 2012 N7 and this one feels much faster. Also the higher res actually helps a lot with browsing websites in desktop mode.

One last thing, I also op tested the new chrome cast dongle. Pretty cool and works exactly like the articles say.

I hope that the new N7 will be better than the crap 2012 N7 that I have...hopefully ASUS learned its lesson with rushing a product out AND using crap internals.

Chromecast seems interesting.

At one point, my N7 (2012) seemed possessed! It did things on its own even without me touching the screen! My son freaked out! Sent it back to ASUS only to have it sent back after they rebooted my N7. Geez. Now, I can't pick up home Wifi half of the time! Still lags occasionally, which will only worsen as the months move on. Unfortunately, N7 (2012) truly suffers from "you get what you pay for" sentiment. There is nothing magical why ASUS/Google was able to keep the price low...because they stuff shitty internals in it!

I haven't had those issues with my GF's 2012 N7. We've had it about 7 months now.

I did read somewhere that Android 4.3 introduces TRIM which dramatically helps correct the long term slow downs related to running an OS from memory without "garbage collection"

I heard that upon receiving the new 4.3 update current 2012 N7's will speed up dramatically ... welll at least after TRIM runs overnight.

I sure hope that you're right. That was just freaky to see my N7 doing crazy stuff all on its own! I know that 4.2 was not Google's best days of programming.

ive used my (2012) N7 since last July and it still performs flawlessly, already updated to 4.3, I want to upgrade but at the same time cant justify it with since my original is still such a pleasure to use.

My Galaxy Nexus on the other hand is definitely getting long in the tooth after 2 & 1/2 years. Time for an upgrade.
