Since i'm Chasing down a few noises of my own I thought it would be a good idea to start a "Noise" Thread. My hope is maybe this thread which hopefully becomes a database of SOLVED noise/sound problems.

Please post up ONLY sounds you chased and then found solutions to. No matter how small or big, or stupid, it may help someone who has a noise that is costing them money and driving them crazy!

-Describe or post a video link to what the sound was, when it happened ect.

Post up the steps you took when looking for the sound.
Post up the Solution or the source!

More details and pictures the better.

*Do Not post questions like " I have a this noise that make this sound____ what do you think it is?*

Ill start with something quick-

2005 4 runner V8 134k at the time

I had a Clunk/popping sound for months when moving forward or reverse and turning at slow speed. It actually appeared to get worse when it rained. I did the shake test of any component in the front end I can find and found nothing obviously worn. Had 2 different mechanics look at it, drive it and hear it with out any obvious solution or answer.

I eventually borrowed a GOPRO and mounted it under the truck, when I played back the video on the computer it was obvious that the Lower control arm bushings on both sides were moving around under the weight of the vehicle. However when parked you could not make them have any play.

LCA Bushings

Replaced with brand new complete Toyota OEM Lower Control arms

Front end Squeak

I had a high pitch squeak in the front end that would make noise from the smallest to the biggest bump. It was very quick but loud enough that no matter how much you try to turn of the radio it was there. I literally dealt with this squeak for almost a year.
One day while shutting my passenger door a little hard I heard the squeak while the truck was parked and off. I went digging and banging around under the front of the truck in the area I heard it.
I shut the door hard a few times and only got it to happen once or twice out of maybe 10 attempts.

Turns out there was a part where the inner part of the passenger fender attached to the body/frame of the car that was some how rubbing metal to metal. it had almost like a tab with a hole that a bolt would be in but there is a bolt there. You can only get to it from under neath reaching up.

I put 1 zip tie on and pulled it tight.. Never head the sound again, its been almost a year since that.

Shrill, high pitched squeak coming from rear end of vehicle, seemed similar to the dreaded upper rear seat backs loose on the retaining mounts squeak... but squeak remained regardless of seats up or down. Noise appeared during driving over any sort of bumps.

Removed everything from vehicle, noise persisted.

Greased all the rear end gate mounting points and noise went away.

Replaced all the endgate mounts, noise returned.

Toyota body shop suggested replacing the rear end-gate seal in order to increase pressure on the endgate against the mounts.

Have been keeping the mounts greased until I get a chance to put in the new seal.

Hope this helps. Most annoying Squeak ever.

Creak/Squeak that seems to come from everywhere but no where.

Push the sunroof cover all the way forward... if mine is back even a tiny bit, it creaks. Just about used a Molotov cocktail to fix that noise...

Squeaking over bumps

Any speed kind of echoing.

turned out the rear seats were not latching correctly.

Greased and adjusted latches

Made sure seat was firmly locked in.. No more squeak
