The "Pile" build.

Drove behind the shop and goofed around a little. I'm going to like the 5.29's just fine I think. I also drove a couple miles to the fuel station this evening, surprisingly it corners better with seemly less body roll with the added wheel width.

Just because I'm a pic whore, here's some more from today. :)

Threw an interior back in it, the floor mats suck though, hate the color.

I put about 200 miles on it this afternoon. Really happy how well the BB's are working to balance these tires. There is a slight wobble around 40mph, but it goes away at every other speed.

Thanks!
I'm a little bummed in that Im fairly certain the trans input bearing is shot. I was hoping it was just the throw out bearing, but it is not. I'll keep an eye on CL and try to find a solid deal on a trans and dual case setup.

Time for an Atlas upgrade - don't you think?

That thing is hideous. You should drive it to Moab in October and just leave it. I promise that no one would pick it up and take it back to Colorado.

Isn't it disgusting? He should leave the softop in Salt Lake on the way down though, I've got a hard top he can borrow to cover up some of that nastiness.

I really want to come to Moab, maybe next year though.
She passed 277,777 miles this afternoon, still running strong!

I've started to make some upgrades plans for this winter. I need to replace my trans and clutch and have been looking for a R151 trans from a turbo. I want the use of the stronger trans and lower first gear. I'm also thinking of upgrading my T case to a 4.7 swap at the same time and installing an upgraded 23 spline shaft to work with that trans. I thinking a single 4.7 case will be enough for my capabilities? I also plan to buy a high pinion diff for the front axle. If I decide to keep this rig long term and use it more often, a complete front Rock Assault axle is in my future.
I have been driving it a lot these past couple months and have decided to add a rear sway bar. They are not that difficult to remove when heading off road, but I feel it would help on the highway, any thoughts?

For 37s, you might wanna look into duals. I have just the single 4.7 case with 5.29s and 33s, and it's enough for me, but I can see where a larger tire size might not think it's quite enough.

What kind of obstacles are you hitting? Are you in the ledgy lurchy rocks, or is it more of the offcamber muddy hill climb stuff?

More the muddy/rocky sloppy stuff here. I don't have any real experience with rock crawling or wheeling in dryer climate areas. Duels are not out of the question though.

very nice build, i am a big fan of chevelle's too so your my hero!
i'm running chevy rears and i ended up beefing up the springs (actually found a 4 leaf pack instead of the 3). stopped all my sway problems and still rides just as smooth. i think those springs are just too soft. thats my 2 cents

I passed on a set of 63"s in the 4 pack for a pair of the 3 packs to replace my worn out ones. I was afraid of them being too stiff with how light these little trucks are. They will work for now though, I plan to buy 63" lift springs eventually because I want to get rid of some of the shackle length and 2" lift blocks used to level it out.

I just took on another hotrod build for a friend, so my time will be limited this winter to make improvements to the Pile. At least once the time comes, it will ease the hurt on my wallet though.

As I type this, it even saddens me more to say I sold the "Pile" tonight. :(
Unfortunately I had a family emergency and needed some quick cash, I called a buddy and sold it for good money. It went to a good home, but I'm really bummed. I do still have my '87 SR5, so hopefully I'll still be allowed to hang out here...lol

Aww, man, that's a drag. There will be more trucks, though.

Reading this thread again and seeing my buddy driving The Pile through town every now and then is killing me! Like pouring salt in the wound. I might have to SAS my '87 to improve my mood, lol.
