I called ToyTec today and was told my options were either a -OME shock that would severely limit my travel but ride very nice and handle the weight with ease, or another set of the 5125s that I would destroy in like 6months but not hurt my flex/travel... otherwise I was SOL... wtf ToyTec who the hell do you have working for you guys?! I know this can't be real... I have to have more options than those two. The guy whom I spoke with kept trying to tell me I couldn't have 4" of lift in the rear and that at most people only have 3".... 2.5 is common. Get it together @toyteclifts ... I was ready to spend some coin today but I might be forced elsewhere if this is the caliber of sales reps you have... he didn't even make any attempt to take my order or seam interested in a sale...

Wow.... What happened to Toytec? I've never heard of anyone there not wanting to assist or look into something for us. It's been awhile, but they sure helped me out.

If I recall - the 5125 is part number BE5-6252-H5 - which is actually a chevy 1500 shock. Wonder if you can find a heavier duty shock set up for a pick-up that can handle the weight and still have the stoke.

What about the big companies like Icon or King? You may be able to even put in a call to ADS or down south motorsports and see if there's an ADS shock that will handle the weight and travel.

yeah, ive been looking into 120 rear shocks... but i want to talk with someone at who is more knowledgeable than me on specific shocks, like can they handle the load im going to be throwing at them, will they handle the occasional towing needs i have? i got the lengths down, but its the load carrying capacity im after.
ive been looking at these;
fox - 980-24-679 though not sure on lenth extended and collapsed...
icon - 56505 i believe these are what im running on the back of my GX currently and i love them
radflo - 5ST00100 but they are on special order...
ideally id probably go with the fox shock as its the cheapest but seams to basically be the same deal as the other two. i like the icons i have on my gx, but i dont necisarly want to buy icons just because they are icons and be a "fan boy", if they are $60= better and will last longer maybe but im not paying that for a name... the radflos are a lot more and probably not worth it even if i can have them specifically made for my application, they sound a lot more high maintenance than the other two, and well im not racing this truck or even running high speed trails, the most these shocks will see is 80mph on the freeway - i need a RR CO system up front to even start thinking about 50+ on washboards... my 5100s wont take that abuse for long lol, and i have no desire to put this rig into a tree anytime soon

Have you given Wheelers a call in Grants Pass? They talked me out of the Bils 5160's RR due to all the mounting challenges. Seem to know their stuff. They also talked me through why I needed the extended bump-stops in the rear or I would kill my 5125's every time I went out wheeling. I don't have near the weight as you, but I'm certainly not gentle on my rig. Got 2 years on this set of 5125's.

i havent called them, but maybe i will, as well as ADS. i dont have an issue with the travel on my 5125s, i do not max bottom them out. my issue with them is they can not handle the weight i have back there 1-2 months of driving and they are toast...

Retention strap for the rear to keep the weight off the shock? Just a thought.
I've been trying to keep the weight down on mine but got bit in the a$$ on Firebreak the other day. Got hung up on my stock gas-tank skid. I now have a 12 gallon tank.

time to get a tank skid. for the most part im not too worried about anything under the truck im so armored -i am nervous about the rear axle/diff though, but other than that im just like "zero Fs given..." and hit it...

You have the little skip tank skid, right? I go back and forth as to fab or buy. At this point I'm probably too lazy to fab - so I'll do my research. Thank goodness for the 12.5 gallon aux tank I have where the spare used to be...

i do have the lil skip tank skid, and i love it, i have beat on that thing so many times! well worth the price imo! i have OME 861 coils in the rear, they are a Land Cruiser heavy duty coil for the front of a fzj80... they are giving me about 3-4" of lift in the back but they handle the weight very well, now if i could only find a shock that will do the same lol

ADS will make you whatever you want. If I were you I'd call Downsouth Motorsports and tell them exactly what you want, even collapsed and extended length measurements and they'll get you sorted.

ads was a no go, at $1000 for a set of shocks, nope sorry im not spending that. $550 is like the max, otherwise ill just make a dual shock set up and run dual 5125s...

Are you still using the factory mounting location? I hate to fanboy out on you, but I wonder if the Icon 56505 would work for you? At $168 each they fit the price point. [MENTION=120150]TotalAutomotiveLV[/MENTION] could likely get them to you for an even better price. They could also valve them however you want before you get them.

I am trying to think of a 2.5" smooth body shock for under $500 and I cannot. Maybe the SAW for a 4th gen like [MENTION=34852]crazydubman[/MENTION] runs? I'm not sure how much they are.

Going Icon would also keep your valving digressive front and rear.

Tundra rear shocks are close in length. ICON makes a 2.5 non-res, we could probably do them for around your budget. Load carrying is going to based more on the spring rate then the shock, but all of these shocks are designed for heavier vehicles and will work perfectly with higher-rate, aftermarket springs. :cheers:

Fox uses a progressive valving, don't they? I'd think that'd be less than fun when matched with his Bilstein "split digressive" valving up front.

If not, Fox is making some cool products at very reasonable prices. I'd seriously consider them if I were looking to put suspension under my 4Runner.

well im probably going to go with the icon 56505r shock, as it should give me the ride control i need and have enough fluid capacity to keep things cool and help extend life. now i just need to convince the wife :whipping2
