the Rescue Runner build thread

i know a guy that has put two 5.3's and 1 6.0 in some FJ40 and a FJ45.
They bring those trucks to life.
a 5.3 might be something to consider. Parts availability is great and you can find low mileage engines reasonable

i like the idea of keep this thing toyota, for reliability sakes and cost of parts:biggrin2:

well bad news today...

i woke up and went out to my truck this morning to go to work only to be greeted by wires dangling out of the headliner at the top of the windshield... it quickly becomes apparent that my truck was broken into over the night. they cleaned it out, took the valentine 1 radar detector, dash cam, GPS system, UHF/VHF radios, and CB radio... warn wireless remote, RTIC cooler, cloths, tools, a couple knifes, usb power pack, and my H&K USP45 w/3 full 12rd mags... a key for the truck, laptop, my digital SLR and lenses, but they leave my scanguage II, stereo, amp and sub, and my $300 work boots -thanks douche bags.

i replaced the window they broke out and cleaned all the glass out of it, the cops made a report and fingerprinted the truck, got some good ones but we dont know if they are mine or the officers or dickheads... time for a security camera system on the house.

I had a handgun stolen out of my old Bronco, it made me sick to my stomach knowing some shithead kid had my Sig Sauer. By a miracle, the kid was picked up by the police and I got my gun back that same day. now I don't leave one in my vehicle, unless it's in my garage.

I knew it was a kid because he left behind my Valentine One, but took the change from the change caddy, (maybe $2 worth), and he didn't take my CD's...must not have liked my choices. :wof:

That friggin sucks. Sorry to hear that. Damn thieves. I hope the prints turn something up on these scum bags. It's gotten to a point where I hate to leave mine alone in the parking lot when I go hiking. Keep an eye on the pawn shops and CL. I'll keep a look on CL as well.

So today I had enough with the loud exhaust in my runner... I went down and had a shop pull out my magnaflow and put in larger (stock replacement) muffler. The sound is much quieter and more manageable, and with the larger 2.5" pipe that I run it still sounds good and flows freely. Very happy and only spent $170. Not bad for sanity lol.

Your freaking luck with thieves man.. Sorry to hear that. Makes my blood boil just reading it.
Tell me about it. I'm just so beside myself wondering if it's even worth replacing the stuff... (I know it is, but it's also such a hassle dealing with insurance). I honestly some days just want to sit and cry and just ignore everything...

PM me your order # or reply back to the order confirmation and we will look it up. Thanks, Mike

Ugh.. Sorry to hear you got ripped off man. That sucks. I would say before replacing any of that cool stuff, buy a nice alarm. It is one of the first things I did to my 4runner because I live in a crappy neighborhood. OEM alarms don't cut it. And while it wont prevent all theft, smash and grab, it will deter the average criminal. That and I do what I can to hide any meth candy (anything that sticks onto a windshield or looks like an aftermarket electronic from sight. On the one hand I hate car alarms, but I hate replacing glass, items and having to deal with insurance adjusters even more. Good luck man.

Looking good man, is it back to DD status yet, or you still just using it as a mostly trail rig?
Well it was my work/SAR rig, as my job required that I be able to live remotely often for several weeks at a time... But that may be coming to and end, along with the fact that the Lexus has been in the shop now for almost 2months... Hopefully in the next day or two I will have the Lexus us back and the runner will again be sidelined, and used just for SAR/trail/recreational uses.
