The Retrofit source group buy, interested?

hey guys,
i've been emailing back and forth with zach @ TRS, they do a lot of group buys for the tacoma guys. I thought it would be sweet to set up a groupbuy for the T4R members. This group buy is specifically for their HID kits only but i'm sure if there are others interested in retrofits, they could email zach.

Zach here at TRS. We're not a vendor on any 4runner sites or forums that i'm aware of. I know we're incredibly active on the Tacoma World forum, but not too many others (except HIDPlanet.com, as we own that forum). We can setup a group buy for you and your forum if you think you've got the demand for it. How many people do you think would be on board? The discount tiers based on participants. For instance, 10 participants would get a 10% discount, 15 a 15% and so on, but we don't typically go beyond a 20% discount (especially on HID kits).

Let us know if you'd like to get something setup and we can definitely work something out!

And here's a picture of the HID cutoff against my garage for illustrative purposes only. Not trying to start a debate about HIDs in halogen projectors, plenty of those threads here already. Is it the best, sharpest cutoff? No. Is it decent? Yes. Is it dangerous, IMO, No. After doing lots of driving last night in traffic it's easy to see the light from these projectors is well contained. Pulling up behind traffic there is virtually no light scatter into people's windows and you could the distinct cutoff when driving by structures.

I've actually been talking with Carlos at TRS to see if the is250 or the LS460-r projectors are a direct fit to the '14s. If so maybe we could set up a group buy for a bolt on kit! I'll let you know what he says. I need to send him some pics of the headlights this afternoon.

I'm in, I was actually searching for a coupon code last night to pull the trigger on this kit. Seems to be much better quality then DDM's... Cant say I can complain about DDM's, I've had them on 3 rigs thus but want to give these a try.

Seems all the Taco codes for discount have dried up.

Does this company only make the retrofit for the '14 model? Adding in the possibility for all 5th Gens to be involved in this group buy would dramatically increase the possibility for a significant turnout / big discount.

There is no retrofit for a 2014 4runner, the bulb loads sideways and there are no aftermarket bowls that do this that I know of. If one becomes available, I will definitely be one of the first to order it.
I just went to ebay and they do the best offer, I got the 3five kit, regular price was 150, but they took a 125 plus shipping. That pretty much the lowest I heard they go, a 16.7% discount. Also from what I have read, no reason to do the 5five, to bright, could get too hot and melt reflector, and because its so bright, it would actually reduce your ability to make out details during night driving.

This would, obviously, be the best solution out there for the 2014+ guys. I'd love to hear what TRS says about a direct bolt-in swap using an existing Toyota OEM HID projector when you drop by.

are you talking about putting a mini projector lens on the inner 2014 bulb (I think the straight halogen is just high beams... please correct me if Im wrong). I was curious if that could be done, so there would be 2 projectors in each headlight, like new BMWs...

BTLAW, Would you mind taking a look at the stock projector shield on your acquired headlight and tell me/take a couple of pictures of it? I have been curious about the "Squirrel Spotters" for quite some time now. I have not been able to find any definitive evidence that they even exist on the 2014's. This has been my main point of contention from putting in a PnP HID setup.

That would be awesome. I snapped a couple pics and was going to send them to Carlos, but having the real thing there for them to fiddle with is 10x better! Let us know what you find!

Thats what I mean also... putting in a HID conversion is nothing. Adding a projector lens is the good stuff.
The 2014s have the projector on the low beams, but what would it take to put a projector setup/full retro over the inner/straight halogen bulb. So the end result would be 2 projectors in each headlight....

Yeah that's weird. Not sure what the heck was going on but mine would NOT make contact no matter what. Tried shoving them in, wiggling, shaking, yelling, upside down and right side up, nothing, no power at all. Finally got fed up and pulled out the prongs.
