The short wife syndrome.

So what are the options I have so that my 5'1" wife can get into our 4Runner other than replacing the stock running boards?

Been thinking about just a folding step stool.

Sliders of some sort do not look like they would be of much help to get into the vehicle plus decent ones seem to be around $400+

I have the stock ones, they came with the truck but were already taken off and I like the look better without them.

What about those little "Side steps" I think they call them?

I suppose I could get a taller wife but I like the one I got.

Or a set of power folding running boards.

Or some that are individual steps.



I don't know if either are available for the 3rd gen. And I know both with get thrashed by rocks.

Only other options are stock running boards or true sliders.. Unless I forgot something.

yeah im in the same boat. i know my aunt just caries a folding step stool so my grandmother can get in. my girl friends are all short so sometimes it takes a couple of tries to make it in. i am going to have to get some that have a drop down step for each door but im going to make it so they can fold back up under it so i still have clearance.

My wife makes use of my Nerf Step bars.....not everybody likes these though...but I'm a fan!

Well the power running boards would be nice but are like $1300.

Something like the N-fab looks feasible.

Will the stock running boards even work with the Lift & Tires I have?

I've seen guys running 285's and running boards, so you should be ok. Might have to trim for the front tires though...not sure.

I brought this up a long long time ago on Yotatech BUT I've always wanted to see someone integrate THESE with sliders on a 4runner. I think it would be a cool idea.

I was just looking at those a few minutes ago and was thinking the exact same thing.
But they do not appear to make them for a 2002 4Runner.
The slider by itself I do not think would help her very much to get into the truck.

yea, they only make rockrails for the 2010 4Runner.

As far as it goes with just the steps, I'm sure they can be fabbed to work. The sliders do provide as a little step but I'm tall enough to just hop in my truck.

I went out with a short girl once, she asked for a watch for Xmas one year and I told her she didn't need one since there is a clock on the stove in the kitchen and that is where she should spend most of her time. I traded her in for a new woman who is 5"9...

The running board problem I could also understand. Both my mother and sister are short and they borrow the Runner sometimes so I have to leave them on. I hate them because I'm 6"2 and I'm constantly brushing my dress pants on the dirty bastûrds when I exit the truck.

I saw a thread a while back where the OP put grip tape on the rock sliders and installed an extra handle so his wife could get in the truck more easily. I'm not sure which board it was on... it was an FJ Cruiser, but the concept should be easy enough.

Stubbs sliders stick out a fair ways. plate the top of them and lay down some grip tape and you have the best of both worlds.

My wife says that the same day that I take the running boards off of my land cruiser, she wants sliders. She is 5'4" and manages quite well.

Yeah I am seriously thinking about some sort of sliders, probably use the spray on truck bed coat and some grip tape.
Was trying to think last night about some sort of step that hooks to it for my 93 year old mother to get up into it.

Where to install the "extra handle"?
