The skid plate thread

Instead of cluttering up the 5th gen for sale/wanted thread, I thought I'd start a separate skid plate thread.

After figuring out that my used 2012 Limited came with 2 missing skid plates (my fault for not checking), I've got some answers but more questions.

First, no KDSS, so don't have to worry about that.

Front "skid plate" p/n: 51405-60210 (actually just called a "splash shield")
Middle skid plate p/n: 51405-60050

...and a few bolts.

From what I can tell, the TRD front skid plate (p/n PT938-00140) actually just replaces the splash shield 51405-60210, and the middle skid plate 51405-60050 is still needed. Correct?

The TRD front skid plate description says 2014-2017. Will it fit 2012?

To borrow photos from Antman's oil change thread, there are a total of 3 guards under the stock 4Runner... These two...

...and the one further back that has the opening for the drain where the small cover is removed.

the RCI front skid w/filler plate covers all of that... I just tossed all that (pictured) in the garbage last week, I would have given them to you

I just installed the RCI skids, so I have the stock skids I will ship you if you pay the shipping. I have a 2016 TEP, so you will need to find out if they will fit. I can clean them up and get a few pics if it interests you.

why would you waste your money on stock crap? grab yourself an RCI skid and call it a day
Yes, I've looked at those.... I'm just trying to figure out what's what.

Filler plate + front skid plate + transfer case plate with black powdercoat will run me about $600.

I have a stock front skid as well if you need. Just cover shipping.
That's the thing, I need all 3 parts, from front bumper to transmission. All 3 are missing...

I have some great folks here offering me their complete set of parts for shipping costs so will probably go with that, but it has taken me a while just to sort out what's missing.... apparently everything but the gas tank skid... :ybrick:

See that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out... thanks!
its a win win.... better skid and one piece covers everything for less $$$! you will want the front filler piece to complete the look I think that is like $60 unless you want to trim up a stock plastic one.

I have all three stock components I can send you, the front plastic filler, the front and back metal engine pans. I just took them off two days ago. They have 6000 miles of use on them. I would imagine shipping would be less than $60, versus buying the RCI skids. If you plan on offroading any, I would only look at the RCI solution.

One note on the Rci aluminum skids. This is what mine looked like a week after I installed them. I think that aluminum oil drain cover is a weak link as it clearly isn't that strong and is in the most vulnerable area. I wrote Rci about it, it's been a week and still waiting for a reply...

The group buy ended a couple weeks ago, but thats when I ordered mine and the gave 15% discount, which alleviated the shipping and most of the powder coat costs.

That is sort of a weak spot on the skid. But I've only hit mine once right there. And I have hundreds of offroad hours on the truck. It's actually not a typical point of impact.. (and when it does happen it is usually distributed) but it can happen for sure. I plan to just weld mine shut and put another support behind it. I realize most people can't do that (especially with aluminum). There should be an option to not include the access panel. I drop my skid when I change the oil... It's much less of a mess and actually easier.

BTW, your skid is still 100% functional. Skids are suppose to get beat up... I see A lot of people getting upset about bends.. in their skids that don't impact the functionality. I think they look cool beat up.. Shows you actually use them... I always laugh at pretty shiny skids thinking... What is the point....

Yeah, I don't care that it's a little bashed up, all the little scratches and dents in gear remind me of where I was when I got them. But even though I've got two years of free oil changes from the dealer I like having that access panel there. I am worried that if I take it off I may not be able to get it back on if it is really bent up.

Yeah I won't be off-roading, but I also don't want opossums flying up in my engine bay...
