Hey all I am making a fun time post that we can all appreciate. I am sure like many of you that you consider no project too hard to handle. Well last night I installed a dash cam in the wife’s rig and came across the sword in the stone. The Phillips screw behind the oh crap handle. Has anyones might gotten past this behemoth screw? No amount of strength could turn it. No man or machine can stop it. Just looking for a fun conversation if anyone has had the same fun I did. Never did get it just tucked wires under trim plate. Can’t be seen but frustrated that won’t come off. Toyota time with Tim or whatever his name is couldn’t get it either so I don’t feel so bad.

Those Phillips are JIS Phillips standing for Japanese Industral Standard. These Phillips are different than the American Phillips and its thread locked.
So if you want to remove those screws you need, I believe #2 JIS screwdriver. If you stripped it because you had the wrong tool. Good luck. May have to slice a slot in the head of the screw to get them out.

Honestly, even with the correct JIS screwdriver, I think there's a very high chance someone strips these out. I get them out with an impact screwdriver and it takes LOTS of whacks with the hammer before the screw starts to turn easily.

If you mean the M6 screw on the A pillar handle - I got the lower one out no problem with a JIS #2 bit and a cordless driver. I was installing a Spiker gauge-mount bracket. Maybe I got lucky. They talk about a couple options on their installation guide:

When it comes to interior trim, hold a soldering iron to the head of the screw for a few moments. It'll warm it up and help release without melting plastic like a heat gun or torch would. Old mechanic's trick.
Mine were pretty damn tight but I was still able to muscle them out. Seems like a total crapshoot how tough they'll be, some go through hell and back, some have no trouble at all.

Maybe. I have removed several by hand. With the proper bit they won't strip via small impact too.
I am betting it's the red thread lock that's holding folks up.

It's definitely the thread locker some genius at Toyota decided was necessary for this life saving grab handle. The thread locker is blue from what I remember, but its stronger than the blue 242 loctite I'm familiar with. It's blue but has the hold strength of the red.

Bit and a cordless impact driver should make that super easy to get out.
