If you commute 4 hours 20 minutes each day, time to move?! sorry, couldn't resist :)

How about swapping in seats from one of the big boy Lexus SUVs? Do they fit our seat rails?

Swap in a set of recaro's with adjustable lumbar and find a closer job. You gas bill weekly must kill our take home pay..

The Lexus swap doesn't work. There is one member here who made the swap. He had a shop do the work and it was a pretty big task. I want to say he ended up going back to the 4runner seats, i know he didn't recommend the swap.

I never found the 4Runner seats to be uncomfortable. It was always a relief getting back into the 4Runner after sitting in my girlfriend's Plymouth Neon for an hour +

Granted, I have nothing helpful to offer, but I can say I find the 4th gen seats to my liking.

We had a 2005 limited and we (wife and I) loved the seats. We sold that vehicle, but then soon found ourselves wanting another SUV. We bought another 4th gen limited mainly because we like the ride and the seats.

I just did a 1,300 mile road trip -- drove it from Massachusetss to Florida -- by myself. I was comfortable the entire ride. I stopped at 1:00am for some sleep just south of DC -- I slept in the back -- and then finished the ride the next day.

Good luck in your pursuit of comfort.

I am not sure what it is...I do have back pain regardless of the car I am driving but never have I had it so bad. There must be a group of us affected if people have tried to swap out seats already...

I've had many cars/trucks/suvs over the years. I have to say, my 2005 Limited has a very comfortable seat for a long drive. I would say they are about as comfortable as my mother's old LS400. My DD is a 07 Civic and drive 2.5 hours a day. When I have to use my truck instead for whatever reason, I look forward to the drive! Anyway, comfort is sort of subjective, do you have back problems or circulatory issues? Maybe the seat is pressing on a "sore" spot?? I know that sounds dumb.

You're definitely not the first to complain about the comfort of the seats. Although it may not be the cheapest option, you could take it to a professional upholster and get custom seat covers or padding.

I hate my seats. I have an sr5 with cloth and maybe the limited leather ones are different/more comfortable? Maybe worth a shot to look at a different trim level's seats. But good luck, I hate the seats but love the truck.

I drive an SE, and I agree that the seats are pretty uncomfortable. But this is coming from a man that has no ass.

So I sort of had the same issue of back pain when I first got my 4Runner. I went and bought a lumbar pillow to put in there and use it to this day. However I also went and got a chiropractic adjustment and a massage. I had the Chiropractor look at my seat arrangement and he adjusted it to it fit me right. I have not an issue since. If this is something that has just started to occur to you, it may be time to look into some medical assistance.

The only thing i can't stand about the seats in my 03 SR5 is that when someone moves it, it is a nightmare to get it back to where I like it. That why if someone drives it, (very rare) I tell them touch my seat adj. And die. Same with the side mirrors.

Do yourself a favor and get checked out by a chiropractor. I found myself in the same situation and started to make adjustments to everything around me- standing desk, etc.. but it turned out that I was the one that needed the adjustment.

That's funny- I thought it would be cool to cut the power to the driver's seat once I get it right where I want it, same could be said for the mirrors! Even better than the memory seats, right? (5th gen LE)

Glad to see I'm not the only one to find those seats uncomfortable. My boss has a Sequoia and just raves about the comfort...

I do need more room so it may be time to move up...

the recaros are a great idea.. i've used them in three of my big turbo awd cars. i find the comfort to be o.k. my biggest complaint is the lack of space between the top of my head and the damn ceiling of my runner!
