The terrible seat....

I hate my seats. I have an sr5 with cloth and maybe the limited leather ones are different/more comfortable? Maybe worth a shot to look at a different trim level's seats. But good luck, I hate the seats but love the truck.

I have the limited leather trim....

So I sort of had the same issue of back pain when I first got my 4Runner. I went and bought a lumbar pillow to put in there and use it to this day. However I also went and got a chiropractic adjustment and a massage. I had the Chiropractor look at my seat arrangement and he adjusted it to it fit me right. I have not an issue since. If this is something that has just started to occur to you, it may be time to look into some medical assistance.

Ya, it's definitely me...I used to go to Chrio 3x a week and physical therapy 2x a week....that was taking up a lot of time and slowly I just stopped going. I am not "blaming" the seats at all....there just seems to be NO lumbar support at all...just a big gaping hole between my lower back and the seat (I have always wanted to say gaping hole, the NFL announcers always get too;)

If I might suggest it. I had the same problem after a 13,000 mile road trip and moving cross country twice this year. I HATED the SE seats they hurt my hamstrings and back. Plus they were starting to wear out in the driver seat cover.

So... I came up with a radical idea to put these leather Recaro's in...

these are very comfortable and I really like the way they came out.

What's was the cost? Did u do the install? How difficult was it? Is there a specific "model" seat that works specifically for the 4r??

no wonder why you have a back ache. don't put the blame to your car seat. you are driving almost 4 hrs a day and it will take a toll on you in the long run no matter how often you change your seat. get a car, it's more comfortable driving a car on long drives.

I commute 2hours 10 minutes each day, each way, to work...these seat are horrid. My back hurts so much I want to sell the car.

Suggestions?!

I have a back problem and pintched nerves. I used to have 2010 nissan maxima sport package with leather and extender for feet and my 4runner, i traded the maxima in, because i love 4runner and it is comfortable. It can also be how you sit. If your legs are stratch out trying to reach pedals, this is no good, because you are comprasing your sciatic nerves and get back pain. You should be sitting more of 90 degrees angles at hips and knees. But to each is different, just play around with the sit and find comfortable position.

I actually found the lumbar support to be the cause of my discomfort when I first got my truck. I kept messing with the lumbar on long road trips because after an hour my back would hurt. It wasnt until I almost completely retracted it that the ride became sooo much better and now all I need is a short break for gas and Im good to go all day.

I just wish the seat base/cushion was an inch or two longer for better thigh support. I hate how short it is. I have a Jeep with seats that are built for taller people I guess (me = 6', 34 inseam) and it is comfy. After a few long trips this summer, I am seriously tempted to look into a simple seat swap (my seats are manual though) or just sell the 4R. Other than the seat, I have no complaints.

I found the same thing! These seats killed my back until I basically turned off the lumbar support. My lower left kidney area would hurt so bad after a short 30-40 minute drive. I'm 6'8" tall so it's not necessarily a smooth fit but all the way down and leaned back a bit and were good. But these seats aren't the best.

Not to mention my leather seats are getting trashed on the outer lower bolster. It's frustrating. Not to mention the seat sounds like a 60 year old wicker basket.

That's $40/day in....

I take our Camry most days...40.00 gas a day....but in the bad weather, the runner...60.00 a day....;(

.....net, after-tax dollars, or about $12,000 to $14,000 per year gross, before taxes. In other words, you could take a reduction in pay of nearly that amount to work nearby, and still have the same net left. The foregoing makes no allowance for the future at your present job, of course. Let me be the first to admit that good jobs are nearly impossible to find, but clearly something needs to be done here. That's a lot of exposure daily, and with increased exposure comes increased risk, inevitably. Difficult to quantify risk, however, and/or assign a dollar value to same, but it's there for sure, and it's your hide we're talking about here.

Re back situation, cheapest remedy I know of is to go to a bedding store and buy a 30" by 60" 'slab' of thick, orthopaedic foam rubber and bungee it into place on the driver's seat. Such a 'rig' will definitely soak up vibration and bumps, and give your back and bod one more chance to adjust to the seat. If that doesn't work, chiropractic is pretty much all you're left with. There are also acupuncture and 'rolfing,' (intense muscle manipulation); any or all of those treatment therapies may help, each in its own way, but plainly it's time to start trying different approaches to pain management. Remember, left untreated, bad situations tend to get worse, not better. Best of luck to you.

Anyone know if a Sequoia or Tundra manual seat just bolts on? I'm assuming they are slightly bigger seats. If so, I'll look for a junkyard or part-out and get it done.

Agreed the popping and freaking of the seats drives me crazy!

Sequoia or Tundra seats

More knowledgeable will reply but all Toy. seats are ok its all about the bracket's lining up ( you probably know that ) , why got rid of my Taco & that's after I spent 100$ a seat to refoam them F$%# those are bad seats , lotta guys over there were using celica seats 3 of 4 bolt holes line up fine just had to drill xtra That & seat-belt bolt just sayin

I am not a fan of leather seats, they suck when wet... seem to split apart way too easy. Encourage masochistic tendencies (yes lets repeatedly inflict our broiling hot leather arse cookers every summer on ourselves! :D), and squeak sometimes...

That said, cloth seats have their downsides also...

I've not had an issue with my seats being uncomfortable yet. I fixed the lumbar so I get nice support and I find it to be one of the more comfortable seats I have ever driven in (though I won't lie... the leather seats in the '05 CTS-V we had come through our shop were probably the cushiest I've ever felt in a car seat).

You'd probably benefit from having the seats custom upholstered, they can mix foams and such and make them what you really need.

I can definitely feel y'alls pain, in my 07 SR5 my lower back would start to hurt on long drives....my 500SL, never had the slightest of an issue...i'm not sure what it is about the 4runner, i tried moving that seat in all different directions, nothing seemed to help

As stated above my 03 sr5 kills my back. it seems that the side bolsters on the vertical section of the seat are to close together not letting the center of my back rest against the seat well. I'm also tall as f#*! which in my case does not help me from an ergonomics standpoint. My parents 2012 tacoma is very comfortable on long drives, has quite a bit more leg room also, the seats in the tacoma are leather and they seem more comfy then the cloth seats in tacomas for some reason.

My older 98 4runner seats were more comfortable...as the bottom seat was longer supporting my legs better, that being said my 07 SE is not to bad, many of my cars i have taken the drivers seat out and had the upholstery shop add or remove padding to fit me as everyone is different...its not an expensive fix if you take the seat out and in to them..and doesnt take long...

We are looking at houses closer to my office. I have been doing a lot of stretching and that seems to be helping. Thanks for all the input.
