The terrible seat....

I've leaned my seat back a little more than i normally would and it seemed to have helped, obviously giving me more headroom and allowing me to fully relax in my seat so my neck isnt in pain.
 
I've got an 04SE with cloth seats. Just completed my first long trip of 12 hrs. I was having back trouble as well. I found when I moved the seat fwd and had the seat back at near 90 degrees I could take the pressure off my lower back. When I had the cruise on I pulled my feet up towards the seat and that really took the pressure off. Stretching in the seat every 30 mins or so and I made it. Agreed these are some very uncomfortable seats for the long haul,

I had back pain too when I picked it up in Texas and drove it to San Diego till I found out that I didn't have the lumbar support pushed all the way out. Comfortable as heck now.... no pain! :boink:

Huh. I too have discomfort with my seats sometimes. Its usually my lower left side like LTDSC mentioned. I'm 5'10". It feels like the lumbar support doesn't line up in the correct location to support correctly. I've thought about getting a lumbar pillow that can be put i the right position for me. the other thing that the lumbar support object in the seat. I think the shape is not well thought out. Something I find is that if my back starts to hurt (it's actually numb when I reach to rub my back, trying to find a comfortable position), if I roll my shoulders back, sit up and get the slouch out of my posture I'll usually feel better.

At least I searched.

Did some digging and havnt come back with any solid options. I Know that seat comfort is generally personal preference, however it also appears to be pretty common that the 4th gen cloth seats specific arent great.

Now that its 2017
Does anyone have any solid factory or aftermarket seat options that can be swapped into the 4 runner, fronts only.. that are comfortable and supportive??

I've often wondered if the seats from my Tacoma would fit. I have the offroad package with the bucket seats and they're comfortable as hell compared to the 4runner's SR5 seats.

Removing the seats are super easy. It’s just 4 bolts and some wire harnesses. If you have seat airbags, disconnect the battery before you pull the seat out
 
So would anyone have any recommendations on making the seat more comfy? I have the limited with heated/cooled/memory seats and need to keep those features, but would really like a squishier (more comfy) seat/seatback. Any ideas?
 
Ive seen posts on swapping GX470 seats but have also read that its not entirely worth it unless you get them for nothing. There has got to be a better solution even if it means some modifications that give us some seating options for the front seats.

Have put a little over a million miles on camrys (98, 2005, 2011, 2012 and a 2001 Sienna) since my last toyota 4x4 (a 92 shortbed single cab with bench seat) and i have never had much trouble getting the toyota seats to adjust and be comfortable. The 2008 4Runner seats are the only bad part about he car so far. the only position that seems to be ok can only be done when the sunroof is open or else my head hits the roof. I need to find a way to make it go down an inch or 3 more and that seems impossible.

I agree....it took me months to find a 'comfortable' position in this T4R. But then I've always owned cars past few decades and my previous daily driver was a $45K Lincoln. Luckily my commute is 11 miles,15 if I go the scenic route!
 
I, personally, love the cloth seats in mine. Then again, the other vehicles I've had were a sports car and a sport bike.

Maybe try adjusting the lumbar support? I know that makes a huge difference for me, especially on long drives.
 
I actually always thought the seat as decent until I recently went on a 1600 mile trip.. I know any seat after long enough isnt comfortable but now I just feel like maybe its actually just worn? although visually it looks fine. Instead of paying for a oem cushion replacement i was hoping someone had a better alternative.

might start looking at at some quality seat covers..
 
I threw a $40 ventilated seat cover on from Amazon and it helped at bit, at least it took the sweat away! Wish my 4Runner had the killer seats that were in my 09'Taco Trd Sport...
 
Funny I was driving home today and said to myself these seats suck. I've tried everything up down back and forth. Can never find the sweet spot. Very uncomfortable for sure.

I added 5 washers to the front and it made more comfortable/ Will drive a bit and see how I feel

Yeah the seats suck for long drives. The base of the seat is way too small. It seems like in general Japanese vehicles have okay seats, American vehicles have Good seats, and German vehicles have great seats. IMO
 
Found it:

Zone Tech Cooling Car Seat Cushion, currently 28.49 on Amazon Prime. Just happens to be black with red stitching, matches my Trail Prem Interior quite nicely!
