The THINGS YOU WISH THEY MADE thread

i would add that it can either hold a scangauge or a small ham or CB radio.

we have the ashtray mod for one radio, but so many times i feel the need to run both ham and cb.

:noidea: I run a HAM and CB in the ashtray. CB hardly gets used now though.

I wish the 3rd gen had sliding rear windows like the 80 series had along with the hatch release inside with a tailgate. And a way to convert the lower ball joint to the new style that doesn't fail catastrophically.

I know (I think) the rear is the 8.2" that hasn't changed since the way less heavy old land cruiser. Is the front bigger? What size do you get in the 3rd gen? I'm shocked that it would be smaller. You can't do a diff drop?

Be patient Front Range off Road has done it and will someday make it available. fingers crossed as it will go nicely with their long travel kit. :frog:

I took the back cover off my scan gauge. Drilled some small holes in it. Then with some shims to angle it towards drivers side. Screwed it to the cover. Ran a flat cable through the back, across roof to apiller. Still have full function of holder.

I did something similar but I removed the door entirely. Drilled the holes in the back but used zipties to attach it. Nice and solid and I like how it is set back a bit.

I blasted and hot dipped my front and rear bumpers. I love it, super tough finish but it was a pain. It will mess up any internal threads unless you red lock tight in a bolt to protect the treads and any sealed spaces have to be drilled out or they can explode during the dipping process. I might do my frame at some point.

Curious on cost of hot dip galv. I have a host of things I wouldn't mind getting dipped. I have same 4x4 innovations bumpers also.

8" front and rear on the 4th gen.

3rd gens have a 7.5" front, 8" rear if I'm not mistaken.

Land cruisers and some other Toyota's got a 9.5" rear.

Newer Tacomas get a 8.4" rear and 5th gen 4runner get the 8.2".

Tundras get the 10.5" rear 9" front.

Confusing huh?

It was only like $250 for both front and rear. The pain is finding somebody who will do a small batch. I found the guy who does all the guard rails and road signs for the county and he just included my stuff into a much larger batch.

Price is good. Yeah I guess good if you can find a way to put a small batch in with others. Looks like these places do some really large items. Would be cool if you could dip a whole 4runner and have it looking like the tin man from Wizard of Oz.

I'd like something like the roof console ARB makes for the FJ Cruiser .https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.5HV2WXzLabdV1PufEFqwawAAAA&w=300&h=198&c=7&o=5&pid=1.7

That would be sweet. I'd much rather have something like that instead of the sunroof that takes up too much of my headroom and barely gets used. What I'd really like is something 3D printed or whatever that snaps into place and has a scangauge mount and a panel with 3 or 4 switch cutouts above it, in a stepped layout.

I like the gull wing side windows but would love a tailgate like my fj62 landcruiser.

The back windows gull wing would be awesome, but hard for home faber.. Most of course could do it with out much trouble , but it's a job! Near whole back hatch removal. Even with a plug and play design. I wish I still had my part truck doc, I'd get you measurements. I'm going to try the junk yard tomorrow, if 3rdgen. I'll take photos of interior shripped with measument to show mounting points
