I’ve learned a couple of things along the process of my build and I wanted to share them with others who are new to building off road vehicles.
1. Lower Your Expectations:
a. Generally, and due to the lack of real sophistication in the aftermarket industry you will be charged with managing your own expectations – As such, lower them if you’d like to maintain some semblance of sanity. This is true no matter how sophisticated a company seems or how many Facebook followers they have.
b. Specifically, the best that I can figure is that aftermarket industry products are based on 25% Intuition, 25% Art, and 25% Science. The last 25% they haven’t figured out yet, so don’t be surprised if your latest expensive mod makes noise, falls off, breaks, isn’t as adjustable or simply isn’t as cool as you want it to be.
2. Turn Your BS Filter All the Way to Ten:
a. Generally, everyone considers themselves expert.
b. Specifically, There are maybe three and it's likely not the guy across the counter from you or wrenching on your rig at any given moment. It's up to you to figure out who is and that's a process of trial and error and often results in money poorly spent.
3. Keep one and two in mind and it’s possible to still have fun.
