The Tunnel of Foam - A short story with a happy Ending

I went to the local drive-thru car wash today, same one I always go to.
It reminds me of a cheap carnival ride.
I pay my $4.00, put my 4Runner in neutral, and glide along watching the multi-colored lights
and whirling gadgets and robotic arms, making my way thru the "Tunnel of Foam".

Today I heard an odd "pop" noise but assumed it was their equipment.

When the "ride" is over, it spits me out the other side and 4 guys that "no
habla english" wipe my truck down and off I go.

When I got home I noticed I was missing the plastic cap that covers the
right rear bracket on the roof rack. The peice is roughly a foot long by 5 inches wide,
so it's a pretty big part, and very noticeable, when it's missing.

I drove back up there, and being a beautiful Saturday afternoon, they
were really busy. The line was a dozen cars long. Long story short (too late),
I asked for the Manager in charge, told him what happened, and he shut
down the entire line to get his guys to search for my missing part.
They returned it to me, not a scratch on it, and squeaky clean.
It popped right back on, but I think I might throw some super glue on the tabs, just in case.

When I bought my '05 4runner it was missing the same part. I always wondered how that was lost - maybe the same type of thing, who knows. Cost me around $70 for a replacement part. I'm glad for you they found it for you and no other cars had gone over it or something.

that's funny I lost the long rubber trim that fills the gap on the edges on the roof (passenger side). All I remember was hearing a big smack slap one day and didn't think about it. 2 months later I finally realized that I was missing that rubber strip. Luckily dealership fixed it up no charge.
