The Virus problem on this site is getting out of control

is your software showing a source for the trojans? I run Ccleaner and Microsoft security essentials, just cause there free lol but they've def kept my comp running fine, an no warnings from this site ever.
before i installed the virus protection software though i did get alot of bs registry issues and this is the only site i visit on my work comp that would be a potential threat.

I don't know if I buy the part about ads needing to pay for the site upkeep. Other forums about the Toyota 120 platform (and other vehicles) don't require so many ads just to pay for upkeep. It's likely just a way for the site owners to generate a profit. I don't care. That's the way the world works. You offer a product, if people use it, great, but I have serious doubts that t4r.org is a non profit run by Toyota Monks eating mac 'n cheese and just barely getting by.
Forums aren't that expensive to run. It's not necessarily dirt cheap. Depends on various factors.

I've had various acquaintances who've started/owned forums and they've been able to charge anywhere from $100 - $500 a month per ad. Quarterly rates get discounts, annual rates get better discounts. You might even get $5-8k annually for busy sites per ad 'program' (quality and quantity of placements). Maybe more. Not saying that's what T4R.org is charging. I don't know the traffic stats, nor do I care, it's not my business. They can and should charge as much as they are able to.
It's a good forum, it brings me some value so I give them my traffic. If they make a few bucks. Good on them.
However, anyone who can count the ads here and has a tiny bit of knowledge on how web businesses work can see the owners of this site probably aren't just squeaking by. But if there are trojans affecting folks, their customers, the owners should look into it IMHO.
edit: funny enough, even the word 'trojans' becomes a clickable ad. trojans trojans trojans!

Another Mac/iPad user with no issues. As far as the ads are concerned I hate them but nobody asked either and I still choose to come. I laughed at the cost page linked, my forum (in sig) is pretty active and I just ask users to donate a total of $50 to cover my costs. Thst's not $50 each, it's a total of $50/mo. from everyone. As was said, what site owners do is their business, not mine.

I have a Macbook and I use google chrome for my browser. I've never had any issues with a virus, and I also don't see many ads. :reddance:

Really?? Must be your system! I use this on a macbook pro, android phone, a pc, firefox, safari, internet explorer, never had a problem to date. Get a good virus scanner and clean that s**t out and go to your browser preferences and set them to block pop up windows.

the virus is called Sirefef. to this day I have yet to find an anti-virus that will block it. agv, essentials, norton have been unsuccessful in preventing this virus. it disguises itself as an adobe or java update. one you get it, its very hard to get rid of. even software like malwarebytes removes only portions of it. then it eventually comes back. check the Eset antivirus site for the tools you need to remove.

Must be a lot of false alarms. Windows Defender has never found anything and I check the forum all the time.

I got the virus also. I sent a email to the site 2 weeks ago about this problem and no reponse. Do not use this site on your main computor.

I just logged in for the first time in a few days, and my Norton's caught it too...something about a malicious tracker etc etc
Can I ask what operating system and browser you are running? I'll make a guess - windoze xp and Internet exploder. My first suggestion to everyone is not to run explorer. Win 7 and windows busts (I mean vista). Both allow you to run windoze security essentials which actually works very well.
