I used to drive Hondas and I swear their OEM blades were the best. They lasted for years. I would try aftermarket blades but any ones I tried started deteriorating after just a couple of years. So I ended up always buying the OEM ones. My 4Runner's only a couple years old now, but the Toyota blades don't seem to be holding up as well as I expected.
 
A set of aftermarket wiper blades is about $25. I change them every spring and fall whether they need it or not......
 
it is funny read OP, who apparently bought 4Runner for only purpose to bash it in every posting here. give it a rest and sell it already.
 
The OEM blades seem to have held up well. I usually change blades in early spring after the sand and salt have washed off the roads. Everyone will be different depending on variables such as garaged or parked in the sun, how many miles per year, and what part of the country you live in. I do like the Rain-X silicone blades as replacements. I've found that cleaning the blades helps them last longer and reduces chatter.
 
So far I've been happy with the OEM blades. I also change them twice a year (spring and fall), not to mention that my son works at Toyota and he gets a great price for the replacement blades.
 
Toyota OEM blades are usually good. PIAA too.

Too many variables when some says "this blade sucks" - often it is dirt on the windshield or dirt between the blade an the windshield. Clean the windshield.

Vehicle lives outdoors - rubber will degrade quicker than one that is garaged most of the time.

Seems like the OP's issue is the trailer "they self destruct while I’m in a heavy rain pulling a trailer."

Get trailer specific blades :-)
 
Been using Trico Force blades for a few years and been very happy with the longevity. I tried Icons a while back and they worked good but only for a short while. Orange rainx washer fluid makes all the difference as well. Been using it for 10's of years and will never change.
 
OEM blades (blade only) are cheaper than Costco Michellin replacement blades (full set), last much longer and streaking free. My OEM have lasted 3 years and still going strong before I replaced it with Michellin ones. The latter lasted only one year and did not clean as well so I now have the old ones back.
 
I would fully expect my blades to be shredding at 2 years. Unfortunately I don’t have any garage or other cover and each retail brand I’ve tried on other vehicles (Michelin, Bosch, AC Delco, and RainX) seems to last between 1-2 years before failure.

To their credit, the Michelins didn’t shred, their performance simply tapered off and they failed more gracefully. What do these OEM ones have on the retail blades? They seem to be performing as new after 1.5 years. Longer blade edge? Silicone coated?

I got over two years from the original OEM blades, stored outside with rain, snow, ice, leaves, etc. I replaced them with OEM rubber that easily installed onto the factory metal blades.

Local Toyota clubs should do a high volume OEM buy and pass the discount along to members in need of only three blades at a time.
 
In South Florida with all the heat, salt, and brutal sunshine, one is lucky to have blades last more than a year.
Costco is a convenient bargain.
