Purchasing Info:

December 26, 2011 - Delivery Day

I bought my 2011 4Runner SR5 4x4 Magnetic Gray one with only power seats (PE), carpet mats (CF), premium security system (S6), vehicle shield package (P2).

Read on for details:

My number one goal was to purchase the most stripped down SR5 4x4 that I could find - accomplished.

1st T4R was coming from Landers in AR - had a bolt on accessories I didn't want cancel that one.

2nd T4R was coming from Don McGill in Houston - semi drivers forgot to tighten it down and it rolled off the top row of the semi.

3rd T4R is now coming from San Antonio and is Magnetic Grey SR5 4x4. - lets see if it actually makes it!

Alright it made it here to Bob Howard Toyota in OKC. And i took delivery of it on 12/26/11 - 16 days after the deal was made.

Here is all the finance details.

Sticker is 34,412 and I paid $31,839 + 199.50 doc fee + $534 extended warranty / free paint-less dent repair.

Out the door price of $32,572.50 ($500 cheaper than any other dealer within a 5 state region and they didn't include anything other than the 4Runner - no warranty or anything)

Got a 72 month/ 100K mile extended warranty + 5 year unlimited paint-less dent repair for $534 (price started at almost $3500, this is where my hard headed haggling skills came into play, especially the loud laughter at $934 for tire road hazard warranty - when I explained i could by 6 new tires for that cost they started moving)

I was offered 2.9% @ 60 months and 3.59% @ 72 months. - after some negotiations I then ended up taking 2.39% @ 72 months. (I've never had a loan last more than 14 months - but with twins here in February I wanted to be careful and have some margin - I'm sure it will be taken care of by spring/summer of 2013) - PAID OFF JUNE 1, 2013

Window Tint

I got Llumar non-metallic charcoal tint. Its 15% in the front and 30% in the rear over the factory baked privacy glass. It almost matches with the rear being a slight bit darker than the front.

HID's In Foglights

I decided I'd give these a try - no its not projectors, but its only going in my fog lights so I'll be able to turn them off anytime. I know some of you "purist" hate this idea and thats fine. I do have really nice real HID's in my BMW so I know what it could be. Its not perfect but its kind of an experiment for me.

I bought the DDM Tuning 4500K 35w H11 kit with the Raptor ballasts. It was $34 + $4 mounting brackets + $15.83 S&H = Total of $49.83

They were bought on April 25th and delivered on May 5th, not bad considering they were direct shipped from China.

Installation was pretty straight forward and was all plug and play.

Light cut off is way better than expected, I'd think I'm not blinding anyone.

I take it you bought the stripped down SR5 due to you upgrading everything in the future. Sounds like what i am doing, just very slowly.

Yeah - your just way ahead of me. We had twins on Feb 1st so a lot of my time and money is being spent with them.

Ultimate Fuel Mileage

I have almost exact mixed driving 50/50 highway.

Here is my detailed mileage. I always use 87 and have used 100% gas just one time, I'll experiment a bit more with 100% gas in the future.

I use the Road Trip app on the iPhone - works good.

I'd bet you are blinding people. I ran HIDs in my Tacoma for a short time without projectors and figured, "F*ck it. Better I can see than nothing." until I was behind someone without projectors *one time*. I removed them the next day.

That's great, but I've driven by - and walked my my 4runner with the HIDs, they are not blinding. Being as they are pretty low the cut off isn't bad. I have really nice dynamic (some call telescoping) HID projectors on my BMW (move with the steering wheel and pitch of the vehicle). Are they that good? NO, but they also didnt cost $2500 either. I think people justify the projector kit by saying they "blind" people, but in the fog lights its just not so. I've never been flashed...not even one time.

Thank for you input, the beauty of fogs is I can turn them off whenever I please and still use my DOT approved headlights.

Pioneer AVH-P8400BH

Installed this Pioneer AVH-P8400BH DVD headunit, took me longer to get the wiring adaptor put together than installing the unit. Mostly got this model because it has dual zone control and can be upgraded to navigation if I decide I want it. Probably won't use it, thats why I didn't buy one of the AVIC headunits. Buying from Crutchfield I got the Scotshe Install package free. I will tell you the hardest thing to do on the entire headunit was take the airvents off and install on the new shroud. If you have any questions ask.

Got it all from crutchfield.com and sonicelectronix.com - I had to make my own wiring harness from the normal adaptor + all the A/V cables for the second zone. Most of the cables were from Amazon.com

10" 16:9 Overhead Screen

I bought and installed this too, it was a pain. Didn't have to cut the headliner, but drilling into the roof was pretty sketchy because of my fear of screwing it up.

My twins better be smiling everywhere we go! It can mirror the display on the head unit or it can run a DVD off the headunit on the second zone w/ the audio going to IR headphones, but it doesn't have its own dvd player. Its mostly just an overhead monitor.

Notice this is also how two car seats look in the 4Runner. #twinning

Medano Pass

Quick Time-lapse of Medano Pass. Next time I'll just film it instead of taking a picture every 10 seconds.

Cool! How do you like the AVH-P8400BH

We like it because its dual zone, but looking back I would spend a little more and get the Avic series with navigation and sat radio (all an add on with mine now). But pioneer does a really good job of audio processing so all the music even on the factory speakers sounds pretty good and doesn't clip out. At some point i'll get some medium quality polk DB series and it should sound amazing.

But I have about 20 movies on an SD card and they play on the rear screen. My kids should be getting closer to the age where we can have headphones for them and we can stop only having one zone playing.

But if there is anything specific you want to see let me know and I can video it and show it to you via YouTube.

Where did you find the Recaro car seats?

Where did you find the Recaro car seats?

I believe amazon.com - they are smaller size than American seats and are tested at Euro standards which is higher than American standards. They are no frills and very basic but also very easy and about as safe as a car seat can be made. We have 18 month old twins so they get lots of use and are holding up good.

Good to hear! I stayed away from them only because of the Euro spec and unavailability.

Euro specs are higher than American on safety for vehicles (BMW, Mercades, Volvo) - all constantly awarded for saftey. These seats are great, but my mom has some Chico seats for the kids in her Tahoe and they are nice also.

But for us size does matter. With two back there my wife still doesn't fit very good in the rear middle (5'4" 110lbs) so every inch mattered.

I'm looking at these pics and imagining you and your Jeep-owning neighbor coming out of the house each morning and giving each other sinister looks from across the yard.
