^ See my post 119 which links to the info you need. I have not yet removed my Diff Skid to see how they did mine but I do wonder how they connected it all and will some time soon be extending it even higher.

Next trip I think will be in the spring but will let you know and will even post here so maybe more of us can go. It's not a good feeling being so alone in the mist of so many jeepsters.

Sounds just like my situation. When I first started wheeling 2 years ago I was the odd man out. Always 1 Toyota and a bunch of Jeeps. So far been to Rausch 3 times mostly running blue trails. Going back down to Rausch towards the end of May. PM me if your interested in joining us

Hot diff hits deep water,vent closes ,pressure drops in diff from cooling off ,sucking water past seals since the vent is closed .The seals are designed to keep fluid in.Has nothing to do with how long it sits there.
It will happen in a flash when your cruising along and hit deep water quick.

The other scenario is deep sandy mud can plug up the vent and not let it operate correctly. It's just a little ball bearing check valve .

It literally takes about $10 and 10 minutes of your time to help insure against thousands of dollars of repairs and a headache.Now that's cheap insurance!Dozens of DUI write-ups on it.Even an engineer could probably do it! JK

Ok, let's see if I got this right. If I do the Diff. Breather mod, I am removing the little ball bearing check valve. Replacing it with a fitting that will accept a plastic "aquarium" type hose, which by virtue of the type of fitting is sealed on top of the diff., and the other end is placed somewhere higher above the rear axle, even as high as in side the rear cargo, or even engine compartment.

What this will do for me is prevent most ANY water, no matter what temp my rear diff may be at, or what depth my rear axle is sitting in, (or how long) from entering the rear diff either through the old breather location, (due to it's removal and replacement with the tube) or through the seals, since when the hot diff hits the cold water, before it would close the "old breather" due to pressure differential, but allow water to penetrate other seals ( which will now be prevented since the old breather is no longer there and since mod leaves the old breather opening, open. The pressure will then almost instantly equalize and there will be less of a chance of water going through the other seals, (Or of course the other end of the hose), right?

The reason I am concerned about this is I tow and drop boats a lot. Most times, my rear diff. doesn't get hot due to short drive to a boat ramp, and the incline of the ramp is not that steep. However, there are those times where I travel for hours, get to a ramp and by the time I get a good position to launch a boat, water is up to my rear bumper.....obviously over the rear Axel. So, this mod makes perfect sense for me if I am understanding it correctly. Thanks for everybody's input in advance. Be safe.
 
SAW 1.5" rear coils

Did you think your SAWs actually gave you 1.5" or more? I'm thinking about getting them but haven't decided.

I should of but did not measure prior to install so I can not say for sure. After install it was much higher. I did drive around with for about a week with 400 lbs to help them settle. After a few off road trips I would say they settled to about 1.75 - 2" unloaded. When the back is loaded they are closer to 1.5"

Whichever way you go don't get freaked out when seeing your truck right after install. They WILL settle nicely.

Parts were about $ 500 (check Amazon). Install was done by a local A/V store but was part of a deal to upgrade my home theater system. Otherwise I would have done it myself. Its no secret that I have two left thumbs when it comes to wiring but this was pretty black and white.

One of my fav mods as I use it all of the time!
 
Console Vault from that group buy. Perfect fit with two washers. Only thing I did was remove the handle thingy as it served no useful purpose.
