I got my tires mounted today. I went with the Goodyear duratrac 265/70/R17. Here are few pictures of the new setup. The weather was pretty bad today so the pics aren't great:

So far the mods great! Glad to see you didn't get clear corners like 90% of new owners do

Here is an update on my steering play issues.


I had replaced my lower ball joints, outter tie rod ends, shocks all around, sway bar bushings, and the steering rack bushings, but I still had some slop in the steering system that bothered me.

So I continued my search and found that it was the steering rack guide bearing that was most likely the source of my problem. I found this tutorial and followed it. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/70884-how-replace-steering-rack-guide-pictures.html

It took a bit of adjusting and experimenting with the amount of torque on cap, but I got it to a good position. If you torque it too much your steering will be tight and not return to center after a turn, if you leave it too loose you will end up with more slop than you had before.

Anyway after experimenting I got it too a good level and I am happy with the results.
