Thermostat direction

I am replacing a bad cylinder head and doing all the normal part replacements. I have a Maintenance manuals for my 2000 SR-5 3.4L. In the manual the written installation direction has the vent hole facing up. The photographs show the vent hole facing down. Which is correct? Thanks Dave

The jiggle valve faces downward - 6 o'clock position.
