Things I hate about my 4runner

not much really:

1 - shoulder belt doesn't retract anymore - sometimes the door tries to close on it and won't since the metal buckle interferes expensive fix they say

2- the door lock motors work intermittently before they fail hard enough to use the extended warranty

3 - when I go to unload the groceries from the tailgate something always falls out

4 - rear window, no radio key fob roll up

5 - dinko lights on the climate control

6 - climate control knobs that are really p.b. switches (get a clue, terrible design)

7 - key radio unlock fob #2 got lost, dang !

8 - junky oem horns

9 - lots of tiny little bitty pits in the windshield (67,000 miles)

10 - throttle stuck twice when floored it to pass on the highway - unable to recreate

very minor compared with my soon to be ex 07 ford explorer sport trac.
windshield "pitting" is normal in area's where sand/salt is used when snow removal is done

Man you're picky. I just sold my G35, and trust me, the T4R is on such a different level when it comes to quality. Actually, Toyota and Lexus are the only cars I know of that don't rattle and squeak on the interior even with 100,000+ miles. My friend's Lexus just got past 100k and it is still silent inside.

I guess if there was one thing I could change about the 4Runner it would be how the floor is so high. You can't really sit in the car with your feet on the floor without bending your ankles. This can be a minor discomfort on long drives. But from what I understand, the low roof and high floor is a distinctive 4Runner thing.

Oh and I love the cup holders. You can adjust them to fit any size drink from a huge Gatorade down to a Red Bull.

i agree 100% about the build quality of toy.
i have a fleet of over 70 vehicles and 95% of them are toy's.
they are driven hard on terrible roads in the ny metro area and after 75k miles, they still feel new to drive.
not to mention, the strong residule when they are turned in

Considering my '08 is my 6th Toyota and that the prior 5 (2 of which I still own and operate PLUS the '08) accumulated over 950,000 miles, I can't complain 1 bit. Compared to all the domestic vehicles I owned, my Toyotas are top notch.

Sure, there will always be the occasional complaint, but it's only because we have to LOOK HARD to find something and then it's in our nature to *****. :biggrin2:

The design of the Universal Achorage System (UAS) for children's car seat is poor. The UAS on the driver's side is practically in the middle of the vehicle. It's a real chore putting a child in and out of the vehicle and there is also a hump in the rear seat so the car seat will not sit level without stuffing towels, etc underneath. No problem fitting a car seat on the passenger side.

Also, I hate the extremely tight fit of the fenders over the front wheels. It really limits upsizing the tire size.

Amen to that. I HATED that. I bought a cargo net and installed it and haven't any issues.

Things I hate:

-Only driver's door is one touch up/down
-Uncomfortable driver's seat
-No audio controls on steering wheel
-Rear window will not go up with the remote
-No mist control on the wiper switch

I think my only gripe on mine is like mentioned before, when lifting the rear hatch after visiting Wal-Mart at least two things hit the driveway. No matter how easy you leave a stoplight the cargo back there just slides all around. And we even have the cargo net and double decker!!!


My SR5 came with steering wheel audio controls I thought that was standard?

I am however not fond of the chrome handles, grille, rear panel, and the black plastic mirrors. IF and WHEN I ever get some of these house projects done, I WILL change all that out to body color parts. I've had the thing almost two years and still have not had the time to do it yet. Sheesh!!! (I do NOT like chrome on new vehicles, looks great on the 60's muscle cars, NOT on new style vehicles.....)

Yep it's all about the nitpicking with these vehicles, there's nothing major to complain about other than some creature comforts or styling issues here and there, on an otherwise perfect vehicle!

Some of my similar and different complaints on my 05:

-Sulfur smell when hard accelerating <--can be fixed.

- Driveline clunk when stopped.

- No illuminated window buttons for pass/rear

- Audio controls on steering wheel not standard.

- No auto lift/close tailgate

- color matched side mirrors not standard on SR5.

- I love the cupholders. (not a complaint)

- key fob and remote are not one unit.

- Driver/pass seat uncomfortable

- brake pedal makes a weird sound when used.

- vanity mirrors have no light

But I can not part with it. GD, I still love it.

Things I hate about my Urban Runner:
-I can't eat any food in it, because the seats are to damn nice.
-I hate the orange instrument panel & dash lighting
-The keyless entry has a rear window button on it that rolls it down, but not back up... wtf?
-Chrome headlights, if they were painted body color standand or blacked out, it would be much better.
-The cup holders are to damn BIG
-The door switches not being illuminated on all other doors

Don't think I've ever seen this mentioned before. The Cruise Control is lame. No intelligence at all. It feels like Cruise Control from the 80s.

..and then, of course, there's the HVAC.

The only thing that I absolutley cant stand is how the doors lock automatically when you put the car in gear. I know it can be changed by the stealership but who wants to deal with them?

Compared to the 02 Ford Explorer we used to own it's a great vehicle!

1. Can't forget about the one power outlet. I have alot of toys to power with only one outlet. (My '98 Tacoma had 3!)

2. Auto mode for climate control, please let me tell you where I want the air to blow! My foggy windows do no good to me while you're toasting my feet!

Other than that I'm top notch with mine. As others said, It's a sweet deal that our complaints are pretty minor. Have to dig pretty deep on such a good truck.

Things I'd do different if I was king:

Mrs B's '06 Sienna has one touch swipe of the wipers, why doesn't the 4R?

Rear window up w/ the remote.

I see no value in the double deck (I took mine out the week I bought it)

Move the trailer wire connector closer to the center (I bought a pigtail to reach)

In a few years, I'm gonna wish the V8 had a timing chain instead of a belt, but I love the engine.

Make the cross bars on the roof rack easier to take off (and put back on)

All in all, pretty minor complaints.
