Things I hate about my 4runner

The design of the Universal Achorage System (UAS) for children's car seat is poor. The UAS on the driver's side is practically in the middle of the vehicle. It's a real chore putting a child in and out of the vehicle and there is also a hump in the rear seat so the car seat will not sit level without stuffing towels, etc underneath. No problem fitting a car seat on the passenger side.

You Must Have the Third row seat. The points are different without it. They are even with the 2 outer seats.

- Driveline clunk when stopped.

- color matched side mirrors not standard on SR5.

- vanity mirrors have no light

Driveline Clunk - Lots of Grease, Like 20+ pumps until you see the slip-joint move slightly will reduce it almost completely. This worked on my 08.

side Mirrors- They do match on the SR5 if it is black.:D

Vanity mirrors - They are lit on SE and Limited, standard.

not much really:

1 - shoulder belt doesn't retract anymore - sometimes the door tries to close on it and won't since the metal buckle interferes expensive fix they say

2- the door lock motors work intermittently before they fail hard enough to use the extended warranty

3 - when I go to unload the groceries from the tailgate something always falls out

4 - rear window, no radio key fob roll up

5 - dinko lights on the climate control

6 - climate control knobs that are really p.b. switches (get a clue, terrible design)

7 - key radio unlock fob #2 got lost, dang !

8 - junky oem horns

9 - lots of tiny little bitty pits in the windshield (67,000 miles)

10 - throttle stuck twice when floored it to pass on the highway - unable to recreate

I had the throttle get stuck on me before. I floored it to avoid an 18 wheeler swerving on me, the gas paddle got stuck on the edge of the floor mat. So the runner was accelerating like crazy. I ended up pressing the breaks (as the throttle is stuck juicing the engine) then leaned down real quick and pulled the matt of its hooks to release the throttle.

Happened to me twice!!

Things I hate......

All in all minor issues considering it's such a solid SUV but...here's what I'd change.

1. Leg room/head room but that's always an issue for me being tall.
2. HVAC is ridiculous
3. V8 is great but gas hog
4. Old school gauges - need major update
5. Power window location
6. 36k miles and seatbelt return is not great
7. Clicking noise in reverse when pumping brakes
8. Better quality seats (leather and cushioning)
9. Tire pressure light is annoying.
10. Bluetooth would be a nice standard feature
11. I HATE only ONE cig lighter for GPS/PHONE/etc. My jeep had 3

Ok, I'll throw mine in (V8 Sport):

Drivers side rear pillar speaker cover keeps falling off, once it warms up I'll just splatter some silicone on it to keep it on, happens in cold weather (was -10F here today).

More freak'n power outlets. Seriously, why none inside the console?! Major disappointment there, will resolve myself eventually but really Toyota, put one in the console and one in the glove box and you're set, it'll cost you what, $2 per vehicle?

Radio buttons are kinda easy to hit on the steering wheel when going around corners, maybe I just hold the wheel weird...

V8/V6 thing, I sorta wish I got the V6 due to the niceness of the oil filter and easier block heater installation. Oh well.

Give us back a bit more ground clearance stock.

More headroom would be nice, keep thinking maybe I shoulda tried to get one w/o the sunroof to gain a bit more room...*shrug*

i def nodded to some of the things listed here such as the amber backlight, no auto down/up on passenger side, the ubiquitous tranny clunk, etc.

one thing i really really wish toyota offered is an auto wiper rain sensing option. i had it once on my M3 and that was a very convenient feature that i no longer have on either one of my cars.

very handy in rainy seattle.

i didnt see anyone mention it? but i had a 3rd gen and the rear heater worked independent of the main controls and also blew air out of the bottom. i LOVED this set up and the 4th gen doesnt have it? thats what i hate. i used it to warm my snowboard boots and gloves up on the way up the mtn and dry them on the way down. now i cant do that.
lame.
the rear window beef has been that way through all generations so im used to it. you would think they would change it though

1. HVAC controls like a toy and not ergonomic at all
2. Sunroof rattles - very annoying - > fixed loud ones still some
3. Minor squicks and rattles in the back
4. Steering wheel audio controls not standard
5. Dirt insulation in the hood and bottom. Road dirt is all over engine when driving in dirty rain or sleet.
6. Too much hard plastic in storage compartments -> fix with pads
7. Driver seat not tight and moving a bit when braking, turning

I agree to a lot of the complaints listed especially the rear window remote thing - how it controls the window going down but not back up.

I didn't see anyone complain though about the lack of DC Cigarette Lighter plugs. I expected to see one at least in the rear passenger area. Only ones available are in the front and in the trunk area....now I have this clunkly 3 to 1 adapter next to me to plug in my navi, dvd player for the kids, and my cb radio :bash:

My complaints aren't any different from any of the above.

1) Back window, you would think Toyota will finally allow remote to roll it back up.
2)Location of the window controls, very awkward...
3)Amber lighting for everything: dash, center console, radio...for a vehicle that is almost luxury???

Oh and I love the cup holders. You can adjust them to fit any size drink from a huge Gatorade down to a Red Bull.

4) How do you get the cup holders to hold a Red Bull Can???

Is your cup holder adjustable in the front. Mine go really small and they can definitely fit a red bull

His is actually a 2006, had to take back the 05 but not before he created his name on the t4r forum. So I take it its the same cup holder as the 08 with the adjustable arms

They are all the same 03-09, SR5 to limited. They all are adjustable from redbull to biggulp!!!

Thats what I thought, Someone before in the forum was talking about that theirs was not and it confused me. They just said all their drinks always spilled when they would take a turn

cup holders

you can make the cup holder hold a redbull by moving the divider of the cupholers to either side. then it can become very small and hold a redbull can or whatever deadly energy drink one might want to drink.

I do have the third row seating. Had I known I would have opted out. It's frustrating enough that I'm seriously debating on selling.

A Minor annoyance

My only minor problem is the remote lock that locks accidentally in your pocket or when handling the keys. I think it is caused by the bump in the center of the lock button and I'm tempted to grind it off. Never had a car with this problem before.

#1!! Window/door controls not illuminated what a PITA, not even an area light down there
Amber dash lights
No 115V plug on SE
No auto-dimming rear view mirror
Silly cruise control nub, why couldnt they just use the other side of the steering wheel like the audio controls?
