Think I finally found a 3rd gen

I have been on the hunt since January. Found a promising vehicle.

02 SR5 4x4,
109k miles.

Water pump and timing belt are original, so they are overdue. I know that is not a great sign. The price is decent at 6k. Waiting for in law to get a carfax for me.

Underside looks pretty good to my untrained eyes. Can you guys check out these undershot pictures and make sure I am not missing anything?

Looks pretty dang good to me! The only suspect thing I can see is the hanger near the catalytic converter. Also the muffler looks to have been replaced so there may be some rust going on there. However thats very minor to how great the frame looks from these pictures.

Here is the scoop so far:

In three years of ownership. Coolant and oil changes have been performed. Battery and alternator recently replaced. Front rotors and pads recently replaced. NO spark plug changes.

Radiator replaced. Is this a huge red flag? All that comes to my mind is pink milkshake. Would anyone besides a frequenter to this forum change out a radiator unless they had an issue? Seller states it developed a leak.

Thank you. I'm not too worried about things that are fixable. I hope the price will come down a little to compensate for the $500+ water pump/timing belt job. All in with my repairs, I am happy to come out below 7k. I want to get ahead of the maintenance and have her long trip ready. I did not even notice the hanger...good thing I posted!

Go Tigers! I have worn orange or purple since our win and my co-workers (Carolina fans) are ready to kick me out of the office haha.

I wouldn't worry about the radiator being replaced. The OEM ones are not all that great and the tanks are prone to crack, or pull away where crimped, and leak. I'm replacing mine right now for that reason.

Looks pretty clean underneath.
 
Check the coolant reservoir. Look for a residue on the side. It can easily be removed by removing the battery clamp and pulling the reservoir up. Undercarriage looks fine. How's the rest of the truck? Price seems good if the rest of the truck is up to par.

I'll check that.

The interior is pretty dirty. No protective floor mats, just OEM carpet mats and they have some gunk on them. Seats and dash OK, but need a good cleaning. He said it has not been off road since he has had it. Said that he has not even had it in 4wd, so I'll have to make sure it engages.

Radio does not work. Per seller, local Toyota dealer said it is due to a short in amp. Left front speed sensor needs to be replaced.
 
Any other big ticket items you guys can think of checking?

Three years of oil changes and emergency parts is the vibe I am getting. I want as much ammo as possible to get the price down.
 
You can count on the timing belt and water pump change to cost about $700 at an independent repair shop. He should have had that done already so IMO he should take it off the price. That's a nice truck but I'd stay at $5000. It looks like you will need tires soon too.

I feel the same wait, but I am a little nervous he will turn me down and somebody else scoop it up. I guess the SR5 is less desirable, I see them priced better.

A fellow member had a really nice 02 limited with 148k on it. He wanted 7. I don't want to be close to what I could have got a limited with good service records for.

I agree. Looks like an honest vehicle. 5k would indeed be a good price if you can get there.

I bet a new one would go for more than an aftermarket head unit... but used one would be free or practically free if you found one. I know mine went in the e-waste
