Thinking about buying an old Honda fl350

So I stumbled across this fl350. I've always thought these we're really cool. He is asking $1500. The engine starts on the first pull, there is no battery, the fenders look a little sun rotted, the transmission is a little difficult to shift, the frame looks great, the suspension seems tight, the drive belt seems okay.

I'd still like to do a compression test. Anything else I should look for? I'm pretty mechanically inclined but don't have much experience with 2 strokes outside I'd a little but of rc stuff.

Someone traded it in at a cycle shop and the shop didn't want to sell it because of the age so it sat for some undetermined period of time and then one of their employees bought it. He decided to sell it because he didn't have a trailer or tow vehicle. He only got a bill of sale. The paperwork is my biggest concern (California). I've got the vin and serial for the engine. It's the DMV the only place to check? We bought a trailer once and found out afterwords there a lien on the title.

That would be a cool project and alotta fun when it's done. 2 strokes are easy to rebuild and maintain. Keep us posted.

After some research I found that honda had a recall on these where they did some modifications to the head, and this one hasn't had it done. The recall is no longer available and the brakes would need a complete overhaul. I think I'll pass on these projects for a while until my 4runner is more built!
