Thinking about getting 4runner, how hard to install video monitor on headrests?

Hi,

After thinking for a long time between an FX and a 4runner, for going to the slopes in winter, a 4runner is more practical for me. I'm very interested in getting high quality video monitors for the headrests when I get the 4runner and I'm wondering how people go about installing them and where the sound comes from? My parents have an RX330 with an overhead DVD entertainment but the problem is that you can't see too well in the rear once the passengers watch their DVDs and it seems more safer to me to get the video monitors in the headrests. I'm also wondering if these monitors will have some sort of "brain" where it will have aux inputs to hook up things like an xbox, ipod, etc. Please let me know.

you can find headrest with the monitor already installed and some company also have the whole headrest and dvd system

You want some high quality headrest video monitors get some VizuaLogic thet will match your seat perfectly and they come with the monitor already perfectly built into the headrest and the picture is very nice and bright too.The headrest is very easy to install. if you can install a HU you can install these but you would need a DVD source to play DVD. also you can hook up a PS2 and DVD player with 1 A/V control unit it come with. check out my post for picture of them..

Good quality headrest w/monitors cost a fortune when compared to cutting into your existing headrests to install your own. I installed my own, and it was not that hard.

As far as the "brain", you do need an audio/video controller. This is a seperate unit about the size of a cigar box. Don't even consider using the headphone jacks that are on some monitors...they suck. You will need something to drive the headphones for the back seat passengers. I chose a Fahrenheit wireless set up for my 4Runner, but I have a wired set up in my G35, (the Pioneer Audio Video controller has this feature built in.) Actually, my kids prefer the wired headphones, as the wireless ones are less comfortable to wear.

Compared to the T4R, the FX headrests are very oddly shaped, and you will need to use a much smaller monitor. The T4R headrests are pretty good...I used 6.5" wide screens.

Also, if you are considering an FX, (great driving car BTW!) don't forget luggage space....which is non-existant in the FX. If you're considering a video system, that probably means kids. I just took a one week ski vacation with the family, and the T4R was packed to the roof. If I had an FX, I'd have needed a Uhaul! Also, don't even think of taking an FX offroad. But as it's basically a G35x underneath, it is an awesome driver.

Do any of you know if vizualogic offers the headrest in cloth?

Or, as a second solution, does anybody know where to buy the match cloth to have it upolstered? I e-mailed someone that sells them and he said he would upolster it for $100 more.

SAVV makes them for the 4Runner..Some of the best screens on the market right now..
