Thinking about Selling. Need some input

So I knew this day would come. With changing family needs I am going to need to sell my beloved 4Runner. I already know I’m going to miss it.
I do need some input on price and what all I should include in the sale.
I bought the truck with 210k from the original owner and then replaced pretty much everything you can think of. Here is a list of everything I can think of. Truck now has 228k.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something.


I need help on price. It has 228k miles on it. Has a few scratches on the front bumper, rear bumper sits a tick low and has some dents and scratches on it. I’m also in the promise land for 4Runners aka Colorado. I have a price in mind but want honest input to see if I am close.

Next question is should I include the c02 bottle, rack, fridge or take them out and try to sell them separately?

I would say unless selling to someone on the forums with a set price to include all those extras,

You should take off everything easy to remove and either keep or sell separate. You never get back anything left on the vehicle unless you find a very specific person on the forums or similar that understands what they are getting.

Don't take my work for much since I have not looked in a while or looked into the interior or details.

with 225k miles maybe 5-6k if your the bodies in good shape. Once you add the extras things can vary.

Why sell ? Keep it and just use it for Sunday’s or such...wait for kids to be able to drive, etc,,,or whatever you buy new to break since all the new stuff breaks.

That is a FINE specimen. If only I lived closer I’d snag it. And give mine to my kid.

Never 'throw in' anything extra unless it helps you close a sale that you want to make to a specific customer.
No rust? Or: "Light rust" aka pronounced rust underneath?
In my local market (Southern Cal), $6500 would be a good deal to the buyer. Assuming there is documentation of the service and mods done to it.
I'd be inclined to ask $9K, and settle for 8 or 7.5. In my market.

I would for sure sell the Co2 and fridge separate since they’re easy to remove. The rack could help the sale since the targeted buyer will be offroad minded with the gears, ARB locker, sliders, full skids, 285’s, etc. I know the market here in SoCal would easily fetch somewhere between $8-9k for the right buyer. I’d probably start at $9500 and let someone make you a reasonable offer.

FWIW, I saw a black stock highlander edition here in colorado with 200k go for $9500 recently. It was in really good shape inside and out, but had zero extras or upgrades. stock wheels, even.

You should definitely keep it.
That outta the way- if there is zero rust, and the body is in really good shape- I'd have the paint polished, and start at $11k [emoji12][emoji1598]

I agree with Teri. If you can swing it financially, keep it because a second or even a third back-up vehicle is really nice to have. I'm assuming your wife already has her own vehicle so if you kept the 3rd Gen and bought a different vehicle to accommodate your growing family you'd now have 3 vehicles.

Here's the scenario, one of your vehicles breaks down. With the 3rd Gen as a spare extra vehicle, you aren't inconvenienced or forced to fix the other vehicle right away. You can still get to work and run errands while you're figuring out what to do with the broken down vehicle.

I now have two 3rd Gens and my girlfriend has her little convertible BMW that I hate working on. I can perform work on one of the three vehicles and not be stressed if the repair doesn't go right and I don't get it done in the time I thought it would take me. Or, you're working on one vehicle and you need to go to the parts store or dealership for something you didn't think you'd need or forgot to buy. With the extra vehicle, you can drive over there. Without it, I guess you call for an Uber driver, walk, or get on your bicycle.

But yeah, if finances are really tight and you need the money from the sale of your 3rd Gen to get another vehicle, I get it.

I would love to keep but, but I HATE car payments and need the cash to swing the next purchase.

I also live in Colorado and am in the automotive business(Used Car Manager). These 4Runners never last when they come in. Just recently we sold a 2002 with 180k for $8000. Granted dealerships could get away with more. Yours has tons of mods, in Colorado, I wouldn’t be surprised if it sold for 8-9k. I have a 97 with 94k Miles mildly modified with lift, wheels etc and I always get random people offering me 12-13k.. it’s a Colorado thing for sure.

yeah, honestly after watching the market here for a while on CL, fb groups, etc., I'd list it for 10 and take 9 or 8500.

I want another Runner on 'stand-by' because zombies and all...plus I think they are HOT!

I say keep it, my car payment is low. I put 4k down on a 14k car & payments are only $225 a month. Just dont buy a new car with no money down! LOL

I am looking at new pickup trucks. I am currently between a new Taco or a new Colorado. And I can't believe I am saying this but I am leaning towards a new Colorado ZR2 with the diesel. I know, I know it's a Chevy what the hell am I thinking?
I like the Taco's too, but I really want something done from the factory this time. And the Taco Pro's are hard to find and stupid money if you can find one. The local dealer has 8 ZR2's on their lot now and are offering deals on them. I'm thinking I can get between $4500-$5000 off a new one. And the Duramax diesel is very appealing as I have a camper that I tow in the mountains.

I loved my old 90 c1500. beat the hell out of it and it just ran and ran. 35k miles in one year with just oil changes and brake pads. super easy to work on, parts are available for pennies at AutoZone. Got t-boned by a dipsh*t tourist, their car was totaled and I just had a dented door. Window even still worked. I dunno about the new ones, though. If I were looking at new trucks, the diesel Colorado would be high on my list.

Before Toyota’s I was a Chevy girl. That’s all we had on the farm and they work tirelessly. Used to be great trucks.
Heck even now the older pickups are bringing good money. Everyone wants an old workhorse now.
Diesels are hard workers.
Tough choices.

There's a reason there's 8 on the lot. Dont take it off road, there's no switch to turn off the airbags. Check you tube, these things have been totaled by insurance companys beacaus all air bags have gone off on the trail! LMAO

No airbag turn off? Rear and front lockers, bad ass suspension, and no airbag turnoff? That seems like your just asking for trouble. I am going to start YouTubing. I have been on their forum and haven't seen that yet, but I am glad you brought it up as that is a little disconcerting.


I have thought about a Tunrda, but I really don't want a full size truck. I work downtown and it would suck to try and park a full size truck in my lot.
