Thinking about swapping my 06 Tundra for 3rd Gen T4R

Hi Guys,

This summer I bought my dad's old '06 Tundra DC off him because he gave me a great deal. Since then, I've been using it as my DD with no intention of keeping it long term (it's a 4x2, gold, way bigger than anything I use it for). It's worth about $13k. Initially was thinking I would sell it and get a smaller truck, but I've been looking into 3rd Gen runners lately and I'm starting to consider one.

I have my share of apprehension about buying a 10-15 year old vehicle as my DD. But from everything I've read, if I can get one with 100K miles or less and take care of it the way it should be, I'll have no issues taking one to 400K.

Specifically, I've found a '99 SR5 4x4 with 80K miles on it relatively close to me. It was someone's daily driver for years and then the 3rd owner has used it as a DD for the last 3 years. Original home was Deleware which scares a southern man like myself with no experience with rust. I'm going to check it out this weekend. He's asking $9,000 for it. Is this is a good deal? I'm under the assumption that 80K is crazy, low miles for a 3rd gen...

I've read through the buyer's guide, is there anything specific that isn't included in there that I should look out for?

Hi Tom,

Take some pics of the 4runner and post them here including some of the engine bay and undercarriage.
Familiarize yourself with the stickys concerning buying a 3rd gen 4runner posted at the front of this particular form so you know what to look for. But no, the stickys cover the most frequent problems owners encounter and problems sellers may not disclose.

I have an 04 Tundra, and use it regularly. If you have no utility for the Tundra and don't have a refinery close by, I'd sell it. They hold excellent KBB book valve.
