I had a WRX before selling it for the 4runner and absolutely loved driving it. It's a wonderful car, with speed too! If you take care of the car and keep up with the maintenance it will treat you well, but don't expect it to be anything like a Toyota. Be very careful shopping for one. Many of these cars have had many owners, or young owners who drive the piss out them. I know me and my friends all abused our wrx's at the track and on the road, but it's hard not to with these, they are a blast to drive.

Also if you can, go with an STi. At least if you are looking for a vehicle between 2002-2007, the extra money is worth the extra power, better suspension, bigger brakes, and six speed tranny.

Really the only downside I can see with these is that they aren't a toyota. Don't expect the original motor to last you 300k like a runner. In fact, seldom did I ever see a wrx last 200k on the original motor and transmission. Suabrus are like legos, many of the parts from many different models are interchangeable, which is a good thing if you like to do your own work.

Thank you sir. I know i would miss my rig, i miss it just talking thinking selling it. But if what your saying is true thats fine with me. Like i sayd, iv always had a honda so i prefer to do work myself. Pride thing maybe? lol How much more would the insurance be on an sti over a wrx?

i have sports car and wanted a truck again, i bought one and kept the sports car also

Now i have both and while i want to sell the sports car to free up money every time i get an offer i turn it down, you have to stop the cycle! within your means you will soon want a truck again, might take a couple years but you will regret it

How much more would the insurance be on an sti over a wrx?

Give your adjuster a call and run some different vehicles by him/her. They'll tell you exactly what you'll be looking at.

That is over the course of a decade. My findings. You always lose money to sales tax and transfer. You might have what you want but its not what you need.

Now I have what I want and need. It took a while and some soul searching. But I have everything I need in one vehicle. Just put all the hard numbers down on paper, everything sounds great in your head until you actually see it broken down on paper.

When I got out of the Marines in 1995 I bought a brand new Wrangler. I drove the snot out of it. Up until this Saturday when I brought home my 02 4 Runner, it was my daily driver for the past 17 years.

I also have a finished Musclecar in my garage. I've owned my 68 Firebird since high school and I'm 44 today. But at one time I got tired of rocking my Jeep daily and there was NO frigging way I was selling the Firebird or driving it back and forth to work. I wanted something cool to drive to work in the nice weather saving the Jeep for winter weather. So a few years back I grabbed a cheap 02 Bugeye WRX just to tool around in.It had the turbocharged 2.0 with a 5 speed. I gotta admit it was a blast to drive. It was fast, handled well, and was suprisingly really good in the snow. I thought it would never be as good as my Wrangler but the frigging thing went through snow like it wasn't even there.

However, it did need premium fuel and the turbo forced the engine to consume oil at a quicker rate than a regular motor.

As fun as a WRX is to tool around in, I'm not sure how practical it would be. My first thought is that in these days any 10 year old WRX has probably had the snot beat out of it. High miles, multiple full throttle blasts, ect.. Plus so many have been modded that you don't know what the hell you're getting.

I'm not telling you to NOT buy a WRX. Lord knows I'm a hot rodder and I have no issues with driving a hot ass car. I'd just be a little wary.

Well guys, as of right now im about to go get new brakes, vc gaskets, k& n filter, and hopefully order some new rear shocks next week and throw out those squeeky rough ****ry shocks. Thanks for the help everyone. maybe someday down the rd. il have a scooby but for now i think black betty will do.

My buddie has a 03 wrx he is trying to trade for a 4runner , its lowered has exhaust... Really nice car if your interested let me know

Just thought I'd revive this thread....

I currently have an 09 WRX Hatch and I'm very exciting about getting a new TRD-O/R very soon! (at least---hopefully!!)

I feel like although they are very different animals they seem to be at least of the same, oh I don't know, Family? Order? Phyllum? Was never very good at biology...

Anybody out there have the WRX / 4Runner combo in their garage still?

Have about 108k miles on my Subie and I just had to replace the turbo ( ) but other than that she runs pretty good!

I figure if I can get 8 great years out of my rex hopefully my future yoter will treat me just as great, if not better!

There is a snowballs chance in hell of me ever being behind the wheel of a prius...
And i like in the mtns. so 4wd/ awd is a must. thats the main reason, i need awd and something that gets better than 16 mpg. If i can get a car with awd/ a.c/ p.s/ and air bags for the little one idc to pay a lil more in gas and insurance for safety. I cant put small tires on the runner, i lifted as much as i did to fit the tires i have. lol just seems redundant to buy more wheels and tires when a set of tires for tht thing arent as cost efficient as smaller ones ( like car tires)

I said that too about a prius. Instead i got an 06 highlander hybrid 4wd-i. Love it, lil cheaper than the 4runner insuance and 25-26 mpg from michigan to utah n back with my pedal bike off the back. Comfort, visibility (being higher up is better than low riding every bump) and the blend in factor. If a subi wrx and i are both speeding, guess who gets pulled over.
