Thinking of buying a 93 from the pound.

My co-workers friend has a towing company and he has a 1993 4runner that's pretty clean. 198,xxx on the clock, oil looked normal with no water. Tranny fluid looked dirty.

One of the problems is the CAT is missing. So I'll have to replace that. Tires also needed. The really big problem is NO KEYS! With no key I can't turn it on or test drive it.

It's got the 3.0 and I've read they have bad head gaskets. If I do get it, I'll do the usual tune-up and also timing belt, water pump, head gasket. Here's a pic.

Any suggestions?

If youre friend is a tow truck driver he will have shady connections that will show you how to hotwire cars.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. Him butchering up the wiring harness. Plus I don't want to start it with a screw driver.

If you bring the registration to a dealer they can cut a key from the VIN.
