A King Ranch Ford pickup is a upscale model more like a Lexus. A 4runner is a working mans more basic vehicle.

in my part of the world, it's all the roughnecks and other oilfield workers who add on king ranch to the f150's and 250's because they get thrown so much money lol. and once again, not hating on 4runners, but I don't think a 4runner is a better work truck than a ford..

2. i cant deal with having to buy a limited to get the same drive train that my cheapy '04 SE v8 had (why do i need to spend around 38-42k retail price for the same drivetrain that my 04 v8 se had for 32k retail price)

3. the window controls for the driver are just in a awkward location compared to the old version

4. they finally got rid of the star controls on the 4th gen (imo the most stupid layout of buttons, should have use the KISS method)

Agree. There is nothing LIMITED about the LIMITED interior besides the fact that there are "limited features/accessories/niceties". Cheap faux-leather seats, very plasticy painted interior and no memory controls on drivers seat is really annoying. When you compare the interior of the T4R to the new GJC or Durango you are left wondering WTF!

I left a Mercedes C230 which was $10,000 cheaper than my 4Runner. I expected the LIMITED to be a little nicer inside then it is but hey, I guess you can't have your cake and eat it to all the time.

I think alot of us would like to see the Prado here, but price it in Aus, UK, South Africa, convert to USD......
Its deep in GX460 territory and the GX (with options) has more features than a Prado VX, higher grade leather etc and a V8 (not offered in a Prado), so the GX460 is a bargain in the US.... Buy that if you want it all.

The Prado is a higher content vehicle than the 4Runner and is in the premium segment in the markets where it is sold and where Lexus GX's are not offered.
Stepping down from it on those markets you go to a Rav 4 or Fortuner.
I drove in a Fortuner this Christmas while in SA, and its fit and finish was top notch, it fealt more premium than my 4th Gen 4R or 5th Gen's I have tested. Solid, refined, quiet, climate control AC, leather etc
but....
Loaded Fortuner in SA - R400,000 ($50,000); Prado VX R600,000 ($75,000). Eye watering stuff.

So what do you get for $35,000 in those markets? - Well mostly an entry level Rav4 and it will be a 2.0 4cyl... Well now the 2010 4Runner looks like a giveaway even if you dont like its boxy body and interior styling.

Its all about price, but whatever you buy here, its the best bargain in the world for what you are getting.....

You hit the nail on the head!!! Compared to the rest of the world, the 4runner is value for money here in the U.S. Plus the Prado is a little more luxury oriented.

I was in SA last year and it blew my mind how much they pay for vehicles there. One of my friends told me a loaded out diesel Hilux crew cab was about $60k in dollars. So ask yourself, would you walk into your local Toyota dealer and pay $60k for a Tacoma (even if they offered a diesel)?

So for the type of vehicle your getting for the price, it is value for money. Not to mention, we don't put our vehicles through anything close to what they would go through in other countries. When I was in Guyana, you should see what they put a Corolla through!! Yet after years of major abuse those Toyota's just keep on going.

So to the guy considering the Ford, well to each his own, but personally the F150 doesn't really excite me.

I would have paid a large premium for a diesel engine... especially the 1VD-FTV from the Aussie 70 Series Land Cruisers. Twin turbos running on diesel is teh sex.

i agree that fords can be very sketchy engine-wise, my uncle has had 2 explorers both of which have had multiple transmission problems, along with his mercury. in his words "my next ford will say toyota on the back"

powertrain warranty

I prefer my 4runner over the f150, but I know someone who just bought a new Foed. It came with a lifetime powertrain warranty so a bad tranny isn't really something that should affect one's decision (unless you're buying used because they're non-transferrable).
