Something is going on. Being an owner of a 2008 Tacoma and have experienced the acceleration problem myself I am a little concerned. It's no fun spending that much on a truck and having it do this, it's simply unacceptable. The funny thing is my Tacoma is only on the recall for the floormats, now my acceleration issue came with no floor mats in. I find myself driving with my hand near the shifter when I'm in the Tacoma so I can pop it in to neutral if I need to. I have always owned Toyotas and I believe they are one of the best car companies out there, but they need to figure this one out! I love the truck, almost as much as I love my 4runner.
What's really silly about the '10 Tacoma recall is, the Tacoma has been around for five model years. How does this type of supplier issue surface this late in the product cycle? The only reason I can think of is cost cutting.
Recalls have been going on forever, some small, some large. Now the media is bringing every single one of them up when they have ignored the numerous other recalls that would be put into place every year up until this point. The Floor Mat Recall is SSC 90L (Special Service Campaign 90L), in which the 90 represents the year and the L the specific recall. There had already been A, B, C, D.... up to L and then beyond for that year. The multiply this by every year and you can see how frequent recalls are. The media is trying to vilify Toyota and will use every recall that Toyota releases as "proof" of how terrible a company they have become, when in reality recalls are very normal, just given much less attention.
One little statistic that I found very telling was that of the 40 investigations into "defects" currently being performed by the NHTSA, only 3 had to do with Toyota!
Sounds ligitimate to me. Will wait for official anouncement.
This one is stupid, all driveshafts are liable to detach from the vehicle, my friends have had theres come off. It is a wear and tear thing not something that should be recalled.
