I did think the Canadian gave up a little too easy at time but there is no surprise that the Wrangler is most capable directly from the showroom. I wish the G550 had better tires just to see more what it could do. Overall, I like TFL's content and this video was no exception.

Seemed like a fairly unbiased, fair review. Considering they were driving mostly on snow covered trails for most of the test, and the Nittos seemed to struggle on snow, I think the 4Runner did pretty good off-road overall.

Big factor in all 3 seemed to be tire choice and ability I’m no real off roader but I think the Toyota could equal the Jeep with the same rubber

I agree. Though the G Wagon is pretty impressive on what are essentially street tires. Still, I could almost buy four 4Runners for the price and a couple more with the 5-year cost of ownership differential.

I hate to break out the defibrillator on this thread, but I will.

I bought a '22 T4R Pro a few months ago; it currently has 9k miles. I returned from a family vacation to Estes Park, Keystone, and CO Springs recently. Most of the miles were on pavement with many mountain miles. We took Loveland Pass to Keystone, Hoosier Pass out of Breckenridge, a few offroad trails, etc.. We had 4 individuals total (2 were kids under 7 years old) with approximately 200 lbs in the cargo area, no trailer, stock tires. I love the rig overall but the power is horrible. I was manually shifting and was in either 2nd or 3rd gear to make it up loveland pass. I-70 was horrible up the hills due to lack of power. Forget about leaving it in "D" as it will constantly hunt for the right gear (there's only 5 so it's hunting a lot.) If you have a TRD Pro with factory TRD exhaust, be prepared for engine noise. I don't need 500 hp/torque to be happy but I need more than this. I'm now looking to trade the rig for something with v8 and/or forced induction. I knew what I was getting after the test drive (at 1200' elevation). I had no idea it would be such a dog in the mountains. There's nobody to blame but me; I look forward to LC, Lexus 570, etc...in the near future.

I can tell you that b/w the three, NOTHING beats a Rubicon off-road. Nothing. I have driven all 3…i had a G500 once and took it off-road a lot. Damn capable! Nearly the equal of my brother’s Rubicon. But when sh!t hits the fan obstacle, Rubicon is just more agile. I would rank the G500 ahead of my current Land Cruiser in off-road capability…which means that i would rank Rubicon ahead of my LC for sure in off-roading.

Now, on-road or reliability/durability or the best of all the factors combined, yeah, Toyota rocks. And that is why i have a LC and not G-wagen or Rubicon. But in THIS test and under THESE conditions, the video above is valid for sure.
