This seems like the 6th gen 4Runner

2016 Toyota Fortuner revealed in Sydney ahead of Australian debut

I would expect it to have the 3.5L v6 in the US.

Yeah seen this awhile ago and I really hope this is not the look of the new 6th Gen!! This thing is pretty ugly and would go away from the rugged beast look and more toward a soccer mom SUV......needs better lines! Terrible!
Please Toyota make it worthy of an upgrade!!

Looks like a new highlander instead of a 4Runner, but that's just my opinion.

We could see the same 3.5L V6 Atkinson cycle (I think that's what it's called) engine from the new 2016 Tacoma being carried over to the 6th gen 4Runner with the same 6 speed automatic tranny that they are using on the 2016 Tacoma.

Fortuner has been in the market since 2005. This is the Thai built version of BOF mid-sized SUV. IMO They wouldn't chose a design like that for the US marketed 4runner. Much like they don't sell the Prado here.

Regional design tastes, period. Do you people wiki? :suspicious: :D

This looks more like a Lexus GX than a 4runner. The back looks to be significantly higher which is evident of a GX platform since those are roughly 3" higher in the roofline.

with the rear windows's design, I FEAR that this will be next gen 4Runner. Only this truck has retained this special ''small aerodynamic'' design for rear windows since long ago.

Also, since when do the highlander has a rear solid axle with this huge center differential.

Also look at the spare tire location, which suggest a body on frame design.

The footboards really look alike the lexus 470, which also suggest a ''4runner'' or other toyota body on frame redesign. Someone talked about the Prado, which is a truck I do not really know about.

The interior's rounded profiles are far from the 4runner cubic esthetical.

And to the poster above me, this can't be a GX since it clearly has a toyota badge on it.

thanks for the clarification.

When the 4runner made the big jump from a smaller SUV to a midsize, the rest of the world got the 4tuner. I've driven them a few times in Asia. Nice little suvs. Very similar to the 3rd gen 4runner in size and interior layout. Essentially they are the evolution of the 3rd gen 4runner, much like the Hilux is the evolution of the original toyota mini truck. I think there could be a market for them. I'd buy one over a 5th gen if they were available.

Yea, the post was actually sort of a joke. LOL.

But I wish this would be the 6th gen. I think we will get much worse... The overall dimensions of this thing are promising. And I thought the Hilux had a better overall frame design....

That's what everyone thought after the 1st gen (I had one)
That's what everyone thought after the 2nd gen
That's what everyone thought after the 3rd gen (I had one)
That's what everyone thought after the 4th gen
That's what everyone thinks after the 5th gen (I had three - they were tasty)

Times change. Priorities change. Needs change. Life happens. What is "worse" to you will be "better" to someone else.

Personally I think the 6th gen will be the best generation to date.

Three!? I thought you just had your silver Trail and current SR5?

I agree, with you though; the 6th Gen will likely be better than the 5th in many ways.

I didn't look at who posted it. Should have known.

I'm kinda surprised at how heavy it is. Only a few hundred lbs less than a 5th gen. It does currently come with something like 6 engine options including the 4.6L v8 and a 3.0L turbo diesel. That would leave me with a pretty tough choice.

its not bad I feel ,probably on a 120 prado chassis, and you can choose a turbo diesel, everythings ugly until you mod it with bumpers/sliders/etc
