I am not sure why this would up-set me. I remember paying 98 cents a liter in Newfoundland in 2001 or about $3.70 or so in Canadian dollars. I also noticed cars were as a whole, smaller more effeicent vehicles than in the US. I noticed a lot of GM J cars like the Cavalier.

What pisses me off is that right now I'm paying $1.123/L, canadian dollars per litre. I live in the BC Interior. The lower mainland (ie. Vancouver) has an extra 10 cents or more per litre fuel surcharge to cover rapid transit and stuff yet they pay less than us in the Interior! Prices in Alberta (right next to the Esso oil refinery) are more expensive than Ottawa. I call bullshit.

I'll never understand why SUV drivers bitch and moan about gas prices. If you're so concerned, why did you buy an SUV?
If you put the whole issue in perspective, how hard are the current gas pricing htting you? Does it really make a difference to your bottom line? If so, you're driving the wrong type of vehicle.

Exactly.
I plan on keeping my Runner but a cheap Honda Civic is looking like a good daily driver.

Will the money saved in fuel costs offset all of the costs associated with the Civic? Unlikely, if you ask me. Not to mention that you'll be stuck driving a tiny car instead of the 4Runner that you love to drive!!

I don't mind driving a small car around town (I spent 8 years driving a modified Eclipse) and I'll still drive the Runner on the weekends. I can afford the best of both worlds but if $$$ was an issue I'd just bite the bullet and keep the Runner since my commute is pretty short.

Well, that's fine if those are your reasons, but I'm starting to see people buying econoboxes to save money at the pump.
The funniest thing I heard lately was when my friend told me he was selling his 4wd Trailblazer to buy a 2wd Saturn Vue. His Trailblazer is in perfect condition with only 32,000 miles. When I asked him why he wanted the Saturn, his only response was that it was better on gas.
Needless to say, he felt like a bonehead when we sat down and crunched some numbers. With the amount of miles he drives in a year, we figured it would take him about 9 years just to break even at today's gas prices. And that was just considering the TAX on the new Saturn.
Of course he decided to keep the Trailblazer, which I think was a good choice, especially since he drives offroad a few times each year.

If I drive 10,000 a year with the late '90s Civic EX (30mpg) I'd spend about $1000 a year in gas and with the Runner I'm spending $1750 roughly so maybe $750 a year isn't a lot but after 5 years of the Civic vs the Runner but over 5 years that's $3700 saved so that's not a drop in the bucket but I can agree to some it's not worth giving up on an SUV. This is also considering gas prices stay at $3 a gallon. (yeah,right)
Add in more yearly miles and it might make a big diff. I still hope to keep the Runner but if I don't wheel much after a couple of years I'd like a Subi Sti as a pavement pounder.

Ive been pondering the idea of getting a roadster.. z3 2.5 or z3 m roadster or maybe a honda s2000. It would make things worse with issurance and payments on top of the 4runner if I went that route. I love takin this thing in the rocks, just not as much use for an SUV here in South Carolina. Grown to love this thing though so it would take an Act of God to let me loose it or trade it in.
I keep my 4Runner because I like it. I drive my 4Runner because I like it. I fill up my 4Runner because I like it. I like my 4Runner. I love driving this car, no doubt about it. And it does suck that gas prices are so expensive, everytime I think of how much I hate this car when i fill up, ever 250 miles or so, but I reflect on how much I LOVE DRIVING THIS CAR. and it all goes away.

If I did have the money, I would definitely pick up another car to drive around to and from work, basically when i commute. however, I have neither the cash nor the job, so my only situation is driving 300 miles or so ever so often to and from school. I can't complain.
