Purchased the 86 runner for $1600 with 123xxx on the odo and a newer jasper engine. Put new shocks on it, new tires, and new rear wheel bearings and rear brakes. It has some body rust, but not horrible. Frame has some surface rust but it's all very solid. For $1600 bucks it's not bad. Put new bushings on the wobbly shifter which made it real solid. Oh, put a new windshield on it too, which is good because now it doesn't leak on the computer thing in the passenger footwell and the fuse box on the driver footwell.... more on that one later.
Plan on fixing front brakes and front wheel bearings (high priority), and cv axels. Also cleaning the computer thing in the passenger footwell and the fuses and also one day fixing the rust on the body. I think leaf springs need to be replaced too.
Started my first project on Thor today. The carpet and interior are in fairly bad shape so beginning the process to update it. I like the idea of using monstaliner to line the floor and the possibly up the sides for the first 12 - 18".
Pulled the carpet up (mainly to see it there was rust damage.) Not as much as I was expecting though. However there was one spot that I could see the pavement through located driver side right in front of the front left seat bolt (which by the way is frozen in there with rust).
I'm guessing this is fixable with some welding work. Any input?
Also, does anyone know what this gray wire goes to? When I do the monstaliner, obviously I don't want wires all over the place so I'd have to cut it and rewire it.
Also, on the floorboards there appears to be a layer of reinforcing that is pulling up and cracked in areas. Is it okay to pull this up or should I just leave it?
Lastly, does anyone have experience with monstaliner or any other roll on liners? I've done some research and monstaliner seems to be the better of the options.
