Thoughts on Beadlocks (on a daily? )

I've been doing a lot of reading on other forums about Beadlock wheels.

The opinions are all over the place. Some say its pointless unless its a dedicated trail rig, others say its no big deal as long as you keep an eye on your pressures and make sure the bolts are torqued.

On my 4th gen, When I air down, because of the weight of my truck I can't go much below 24psi up front and 18psi in back and bead looks like it will break, especially on rocky obstacles.

I'm not going to lie, some of the appeal is the way they look. But the beauty is in the functionality.

I go wheeling once or twice a month. Its an hour to the offroad park. My daily commute is about 60 miles total.

I'm looking at this wheel.

Anyway, I haven't found a lot of good info here so I figured I would ping my fellow 4runner owners.

what tires and wheels are you running currently?

unless you are getting into the low single digits, I don't think you have a concern of popping a bead.

also, you may want to check your local regs, but most places, external bead locks are not street legal. now, with the flood of streetlocks, its likely you would never get hassled for the real thing. as they are fairly hard to tell apart without a close inspection, and knowing exactly what to look for.

I doubt he will have a problem with them in Texas from the law dogs. I've got friends that run daily with true Beadlocks and they are just a little more maintenance checking the torque on the lugs occasionally. For the record i wheel my truck in the rocks and desert here in NM every weekend at 15-20 without worry of losing a bead. My SCS wheels seem to hold pretty well.

This is at 18psi...

Be ready for the posts about them being non street legal and how youll end up crashing and burning to death. lol

I have 265/70 Terra Grapplers currently. But i'm doing my best to wear them out so I can justify buying 285/70 Duratrac's.

The more I think about it, there's probably a lot better things I could spend my money on... Hmm...

Yeah its interesting. The thread I found on Pirate 4x4 was just like that. A lot of people saying pretty much that.

But then on a JK forum, everyones like "yep, been running them for 6 years. I check my pressure monthly and my torque every oil change, its all good."

Besides all the legality things our issue with street use is that beadlocks are normally 15-20lbs heavier and really kill the mileage and add some weight per corner.
