I'd like to get some fresh oil in my auto transmission (full change, not just drain/fill a few quarts) and I had an idea to modify the existing DIY method, but not sure if it'd work. Hence, I'm asking y'all for your thoughts.
The commonly used method that I've found suggests to remove the inlet line from the transmission cooler, run the truck, and pump out about a gallon of oil. Then shut it off, add as much in as came out (through the dipstick), and repeat until the fluid coming out looks clean.
I'm wondering if it'd work to modify that by putting the cooler outlet line (return line to the tranny) into a bucket with new oil and let the transmission pull in fresh oil (while pumping the old out) in real time without having to start/stop/refill...
I can't think of a reason why this wouldn't work, but feel like I'm overlooking something in my logic. Hope not though, it'd make my parking lot atf oil change so much easier!
