I just found this one a few hundred bucks cheaper than others I've seen. Does anyone have experience with this Tepui Ayer model? It would be just my wife and me in this thing.
Thoughts on Tepui Ayer RTT?

Not on the Ayer but my wife and I have the Tepui Autana and we love it. Been a major improvement to backcountry camping and over landing.

This summer will be year three with my Tepui Ayer.
It's width is between a twin and full-size bed 48"x75" (3/4-RV size) I sleep alone so it fits me fine. It will be tight for two so make sure your marriage is solid.
I'm leaving in a week for a 6-8 week trip. It will be my home.
It's simple in it's design and operation. It's very durable. The mounting system is very solid and should fit just about any roof rack. My roof rack is a full-length.
The ladder can be qwerky. Tepui replaced my first ladder after my first outing:

It takes a few outings to get a rhythm down but you eventually will. I can pull the cover and have it up in less than 10 minutes. (In a rush, under 5 min).
I have used it year-round. I've had it in 80+ heat, sub 20's, snow, rain, and driving icy-rain/sleet.
The fabric can "wet out" which is common so I sprayed it down with Nixwax SolarProof spray:https://youtu.be/t0DsUGwqKbc
I used 2-1/2 bottles. especially at the base where water accumulates.

I don't have a comment on the Ayer model but rather a general observation on the Tempui set-up. When I first saw a Tempui, I thought it was a really cool idea. But, the more I thought about it, it wouldn't be the best way to go for my type of camping/traveling. I'm a mountain biker and love to travel around the Western States checking out new trails to ride and revisiting favorite locations. Because it's quite often the situation that I'm not able to ride directly from my camp site, I'm getting in my truck to drive to a trail head. I know these tents fold up really quick and all, but I felt it would get old having to fold down the tent every time I wanted to drive somewhere away from my camp whether it was to go to a trail head, a store, a shower or wherever. Another thing I considered is the mpg hit I would take with that big wind dam on the top.
For now, I still tent camp, but maybe I'll be the owner of one of those cool little compact trailer set-ups one day that has the pull-out kitchen, and compartments with a Tempui tent on top.

Friends have done similar as they have bike and kayak carrier fixed onto the beds or roofs of their trucks and having the trailer makes for a great little "base camp" while keeping the truck mobile to drive to the river or trailhead. Nice perk if your truck is your daily driver is always being able to keep the trailer packed with gear for whenever adventure pops up. All of them get out more often than they used to when they had to load their gear into their trucks.

Those expedition trailers are very cool, it's like and inside out travel trailer with all the features but man are they pricey. I could buy 4 4runners for the price of one trailer loaded with features.
I too am planning a RTT in the future so it's nice to hear about the pro/con and quirks of them.

Thanks for the info! I'm 5'7"...would I be able to sit up comfortably? Also, what kind of support does the base have?
Youll be good. I'm about the same size and you can sit up no problems sitting up or even changing. I have the Autana and its great for myself and my two kids. The base is an aluminum and foam sandwhich base which is then supported by aluminum cross rails. I ended up not using the supplied cross rails and bolts a set of yakima railrider towers to it for quick on and off. I ended up putting down some of the foam flooring (1/2" thick) between the base and the mattress for a little more insulation. Its a great setup.

My CVT Mt. Cayley is the same size on the inside. I am 6' 1" and I can sit up and move around inside very comfortably. My wife and I sleep in there comfortably, but when it's just me it's freaking awesome.
I don't like how exposed the Ayer leaves the door... If you're looking for a small tent, look at the Mt. Cayley. Unless you're dead set on Tepui. I don't think they offer an Ayer sized tent with the overhang.

I doubt you'll get a response from him given the date of his post and the fact that he only has a few totals...but those appear to be the same rims as what came stock on my 04 Tacoma TRD...16"x7...they also came on some years of sequoias and tundras...and then he painted them black

Damn I was pumped I thought this was a new thread. I just picked up a year old Ayer from a friend for a steal. As Alex mentioned a year or so ago, I'd wished it had the overhang but a deal is a deal
