Thoughts on these?

I've been looking at 4th gens for a while but haven't seen any w/o badly rusted frames. I've always loved the look of 3rd gens and have decided to consider one of those instead.

These are what I'm going to look at this week. Any feedback is appreciated. I live in Western NC (south of Asheville) where 4Rs really hold their value. I can handle a slightly over vehicle as my current DD is a 94 BMW with 280k+ on the odo.

2001 Limited, 10.9k, 135k miles (not sure how long this has been on the lot).

2001 SR5, 9.4k, 155K miles.

2002 SR5, 7.9k, 163k miles.

Love the first two choices. Certainly a nice find in both cases. 2001 Limited looks very nice, although a bit overpriced. Need to also check the service records to make sure that timing belt and other maintenance has been done.

First one had the timing belt done at 72k. Nice records, everything was done at a dealer. The 2nd has nothing at all - that's odd.

I think of 4runners as 4wds first and foremost. I don't think I could ever buy a 2wd one.

I looked at this one. Clean for the most part. Interior was great but a little musty. Engine compartment was really clean but some parts - pulleys and what not - were horribly rusted. Frame had been painted over within the last year or so. In some areas it looks like it was missed and in others the rust is winning the battle (stuff was peeling off in chunks). I guess I'll pass.

Ever considering travelling to get one?

This one is a steal if it's not a scam. The ad looks legit, but I'm a little shocked it's been up this long if it's real. It might be worth calling to check on if you're willing to travel.

I'm working out of town right now or I'd be trying to buy it myself.

1997 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Limited Edition-Only 66k miles!!

Edit: The part about the transmission problem wasn't originally there. Maybe still worth checking out. It could be something simple because it's been parked so long.
