Throttle Body Spacer?

too bad it dosnt, TB spacers are only good for carb engine, they are called carb spacers, it increses the volume of air in the intake manifold and the carb, but as for a EFI enging, its basicly a waste of money because your MAF controls airflow working with the CPU and throttle body, and all the fancy ones with spirals, its just for show, making the consumer think it will increse airflow by that much.

but i hvae see guys make some out of PVC pipe or something like that and paint it, and i wouldnt mind giving it a try and doing a write up on it tomottow since i took the day off, but we will just see how it goes...

i can't speak for the 4runner engine, but the VQ nissan engines do very well w/ a plenum spacer which makes the theory about only being for a carbed motor false. I don't think the spiral crap is worth having, but some engines do respond well to a spacer, and even better if it is made out of the proper material it will help keep some of the air temps lower. This is true more for manifold to cylinder head joints than the throttle body to manifold, but anything helps.

its suposed to keep the head down, and i hvae also seen people disconectin the coolant hoses from the TB and that will keep temps down, ill try all that tomorrow

also, that is the temp the intake manifold gets and the TB with no spacer? if anyone knows that it will help me to secide on what materials to use that wont melt

only thing to watch w/ the coolant hose disconnect is that if you have a wax stat thermostat, which is mostly older toyotas, the waxstat won't work w/ out the coolant to it, otherwise its a good idea, for those in warmer states that don't need the throttle body to be warmed up.

As far as the intake manifold temps, when i finish up some customer cars, i will throw the datalogging equipment in the 4R and log before and after w/ phenolic gaskets in place. Its all part of my help my gas millage and get me a little more power plan!

Our engines are direct port injection which means the air and the fuel don't even meet til they are in the cylinder making a TBS a moot point and a monster waste of money.

This has been argued alot but if you know engines it's obvious it can't work.
Anybody who thinks it works and "feels" the power then they are just trying to justify the $$ they spent on it.
