Thump after braking

Has anyone else heard a thump, or some sort of thud after a hard stop? It's not so much a noise or sound, but a feeling.

I only notice it after a hard stop, so not when I'm stopping at a stop sign, but more like when I have to stop quickly for a red light or kid running across the street for example.

I'll come to a stop, then when I release the brake pedal I feel a sort of thump. It's not a seamless transition from complete stop to rolling when I release the brake. It's hard to describe, but it's just not a seamless transition from a hard complete stop to releasing the brake pedal.

Don't know if anyone else noticed it or anything?

yup, had it from time to time.

Mine has just 150miles on it so I doubt I need to lubricate the tranny. I felt it today when blasting the AC on max a couple seconds after I stopped at a stop light. Hopefully just normal breaking in stuff.

It wasn't a sound but a feeling like mentioned above... I felt a little thump on the steering wheel.

Did you manage to fix the problem?

Sounds like the pinion in the rear sliding a little. I think I’ve noticed it. I had a Chevy Trail Boss that did it at every stop and GM said “normal”.

If everything is stock and you didn’t change the pinion angle, it may just need to be greased.

I had the same issue that OP is describing but found out that my drive shaft was actually warped. I suspect it was from the previous owner not greasing the drive shafts at each oil change. I got lucky and found an open recall notice from Toyota while I was researching a repair/fix for my vehicle and got it replaced at 56,000 miles right before the drive train warranty expired.

Noticed the same here. I agree with others, the FRONT drive shaft splin needs to be greased. There was also another good post on here regarding how to ensure you don't have TOO much grease in the shafts. Short version is to grease shafts and then REMOVE the grease zerk and either drive w/some hard stops or bounce on rear bumper. I prefer the 'bounce" method.
