Thump after releasing brakes

My 2005 toyota 4runner makes a thump which you can feel after releasing the brakes from a complete stop, it doesnt always do it, only when i press the brakes a bit hard coming to a complete stop, and as soon as i release the brakes and the car starts to move, you feel the thump. i just bought a 2006 4runner and it does the EXACT same thing, im guessing u-joints but i dont know, being that both my 4runners do it im guessing it could be a common problem and someone should know exactly what it is. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

My '03 Tundra did it, my '08 Tundra did it and my '04 4Runner does it.

It's a Toyota thing.

Yes and so many other 4wd suvs....its such a simple fix. You dont have to live with it. unbelievably its about 50 cents worth of grease!!!

There is at least one if not two threads each week posted about this issue. Lots of good info if you do a search here. Bottom line is...you need to find a good lithium grease and pump it into all the zerks along the drivetrain. Pump it full until you see a little coming out, then do this at every oil change. Thumping sensation will go away.

one or two a week is exaggerating...i would have seen it earlier then! once or twice a month maybe. the bad thing about a busy forum is things get bumped down so fast. this problem should be stickied

YES this issue should have a sticky, thanks for everyones help, had a feeling it had to do with the u joints, but didnt think it just needed some grease. i will grease the crap out of them, again thanks a lot

i was thinking the same thing grease the crap out of it but, after reading thru the linked threads. i just did a little on the driveshaft, then went back in and did some more until the clunk went away. Why? i can always add more....i dont know how and if i could take some out if it over did it. so i errr on the side of caution instead and took the long route. with the other zerks, i did grease the crap out of them!
